No matter how you choose to pun it (Smushed? Smashed? Tone Deaf?) the news isn't good for NBC's Smash. The retooled second season of the behind-the-scenes of Broadway series raised its curtain to a practically empty house last night. Only 4.5 million viewers tuned in, a 25% drop from its Season 1 finale and an even bigger drop from its series premiere a year ago. Get ready to really sing for your supper, McPhee. (Okay, we're done with the puns now... promise.)

Casting news! The Office's David Denman has nabbed the role originated by Judge Reinhold for Shawn Ryan's Beverly Hills Cop update. Meanwhile, Donal Logue signs on for Season 2 of BBC America's Copper, playing a Civil War general turned political boss of New York's Sixth Ward. And finally, John Corbett will headline the NCIS: Los Angeles spin-off. Catching crooks has got to be easier than playing Carrie Bradshaw's boyfriend, Sarah Braverman's ex and Tara Gregson's husband, wouldn't ya think?

MTV continues to ruin the image of West Virginia (as if that's possible) by renewing Buckwild for another season of hillbilly hijinks. Hey, anything's better than The Pauly D Project.

CSI mastermind Anthony Zuiker has sold a so-called "murder mystery reality series" to ABC. Whodunnit will require contestants to piece together which one of them committed a fake murder. So it's like a murder-themed dinner party, just on TV? Count us out -- those things are deadly enough in real life.

The tween dreamy British boy band The Wanted are getting their own E! reality series. The Wanted Life will follow the group as they set up shop in Hollywood in pursuit of the American Dream and/or Justin Timberlake's life... whichever comes first. Not to be outdone in the reality department, TLC has ordered another season of Toddlers & Tiaras and eight more episodes of Cheer Perfection.

Finally, Joel McHale has opened up about Chevy Chase's exit from Community and, boy oh boy, does working with the guy sound even worse than we imagined.
