In our neverending quest to take our obsession with television to new levels, we're happy to report that we're going to be working closely with zeebox, a free app that lets TV viewers discover, connect, share and interact with their favorite shows and with other fans while they watch. It's available for laptops, iPhones, iPads and Android smartphones (yet another reason to upgrade that flip phone, The Killing's Detective Linden).
zeebox lets you set a reminder to tune-in to the shows you want to watch later and also tells you what shows are getting the hottest social buzz at that moment while allowing you to create your own buzz via your Twitter, Facebook and zeebox streams - all without leaving the app or, more importantly, your couch.
But while that's pretty cool, what really interests us about zeebox is how it lets people start their own chatrooms where they can host their own viewing parties -- the virtual kind; so no need to clean the house, get snacks or get out of our sweats. The chats can be private between friends or open to the public -- the guest list is up to each individual chatroom host. There are already even on-air personalities involved from shows like The Voice and many others.
Here's what else zeebox offers:
- - Show-dedicated Twitter streams
- - Articles and info about the show, cast and crew
- - Live "zeetags" that provide more information on topics as they are talked about throughout any given show as its airing
- - Live polls
- - Shareable content (gifs, photos, quotes and more)
- - Special enhancements that show real-time buzz surrounding a particular topic, character or contestant
We're looking forward to announcing more details about what TWoP will be doing with the app in the weeks ahead, but in the meantime, check out zeebox to discover how it makes even the worst shows that much more fun to hate-watch.
