What J.J. Abrams' Past Shows Foreshadowed About 'Lost'

What J.J. Abrams' Past Shows Foreshadowed About 'Lost'

We've seen every program created or produced by J.J. Abrams (yes, even Six Degrees), so in retrospect, we're kicking ourselves for not seeing some of the biggest Lost twists coming head of time. Sure, some elements were obvious from the get-go, but most of these just snuck up on us. You'd better believe we're keeping this in mind when his new spy show Undercovers debuts this fall.

Lessons Mad Men Can Learn From Lost‘s Final Season

Lessons Mad Men Can Learn From Lost‘s Final Season

Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner recently said that he'd like to set an end date for his landmark series, presumably so it can go out with as much style as it came in with (and avoid bringing his characters into the dreaded '80s). Seriously, no one needs to see a retiring Don Draper, Joan having to deal with gravity and a 30-something Sally Draper just being utterly annoying all the time. This news (which AMC denied without actually denying) immediately reminded us of when Lost announced how many seasons it would ultimately air. Back then, we assumed its end date would allow Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse to keep the show tight, allow it go out on a high note with one jaw-dropping twist after another and avoid useless filler episodes.... Now, we're not so sure. So, before Weiner and company finalize plans to set a hard-and-fast finale deadline, here are some potential Lost pitfalls we hope they avoid:

Lost Characters We Want to See on Other Shows

Lost Characters We Want to See on Other Shows

It seems like the entire cast of Battlestar Galactica has guest-starred on one show or another, so when we heard that Naveen Andrews -- who plays Sayid Jarrah on Lost -- would be making a guest appearance on Law & Order: SVU in January, we were psyched. After all, the Losties don't do a lot of guest spots, what with filming in Hawaii and all, and we're still not sure exactly when in 2010 Lost's final season will premiere, so we'll be happy to see Andrews on TV a little early. Unfortunately, since we don't know what role he'll be playing, we're just imagining Sayid talking to Benson and Stabler, which totally works for us. Since we miss all of the other Lost cast members equally once the show signs off, we came up with a list of shows we'd love to see their characters guest-star on. Why should BSG have all the fun?

Lost Finale: The Five Parts That Sucked

Lost Finale: The Five Parts That Sucked

Okay, so last night's Lost season finale -- the last episode before the big endgame starts in 2010 -- was pretty crazy. Jacob showed up, as did Bernard and Rose... even Vincent the dog! But it had a lot of stuff going on, and not all of it was good. In fact, some of it was annoying as hell, so we thought we'd run down the five things that annoyed us the most. Obviously, this is going to be a very spoilery discussion, so if you haven't seen the episode yet, by all means do not read any further, unless you're looking for a reason to be angry with us.

Lost: What Sawyer & Co. Have Been Up To All This Time

Lost: What Sawyer & Co. Have Been Up To All This Time

On the March 4 episode of Lost, we'll see what Sawyer, Jin, Juliet and the rest of the castaways have been up to since they stopped time-traveling and started playing Dharma Initiative. Were they really there for three actual years? At the very least, they must have been there long enough for Jin to get in the habit of rolling up on unwanted visitors in his pimpin' van and pulling a gat on them. Here's what we think's been going on down in Sawyerville since Locke made a deal and spun the wheel.

Love, Labor and Lost: Our Five Fave Moments from Episode 3

Love, Labor and Lost: Our Five Fave Moments from Episode 3

So far, it seems like Lost is firing on all cylinders, as we're already on the third episode, and the surprises just keep on coming. No more castaways sitting on the beach discussing their feelings, crap is getting D-U-N done, and in, like, seven different decades to boot. We watched Episode 3 last night (after watching Episode 2: The Cliff's Notes Version), and we just had to gush over the five moments in "Jughead" that blew us away like a hydrogen bomb.

Lost and Dollhouse Goodies, Just in Time for the Holidays

Lost and Dollhouse Goodies, Just in Time for the Holidays

It is a slow news week out there in TV land and I just can't bring myself to talk about Speidi and their non-wedding in any depth. That's why we've got awesome recappers. But in poking around the wilds of the internet, I spotted these two treats, that I thought you all may enjoy. Especially if you are in desperate need of a wrapping break, or a family break.

Another Lost Premiere Clip: Ben and Jack, Living in Sin

Another Lost Premiere Clip: Ben and Jack, Living in Sin ABC has generously released another couple minutes from Lost's season premiere online today, probably to keep us all from getting stabby between now and January 21. I'm loving these sneak rollouts, by the way. Obviously, the wait for Lost to start has been excruuuuciating for everybody, so it's nice to at least have some tidbits between now and the premiere to keep us sane. It's really a public service they're doing.

Lost: Season 4

Lost: Season 4

Because of the abridged nature of last year's Lost, there are probably more extras on these DVDs than there were episodes, so it's nice they didn't skimp on them just because only, like, two and a half episodes got made last year. Though there are many highlights on these discs, I was particularly surprised by the extra that totally revealed that Bernard is Jacob. Didn't see that coming. Read on and choose your own favorites!

Lost: Flashing Forward and Back With the Producers

Lost: Flashing Forward and Back With the Producers

Sorry, 24 and BSG, but there's no returning series I'm looking forward to this winter more than Lost. After a shaky third season, the show returned to gloriously mind-bending form last spring, culminating in an amazing finale. So one week before the release of Season 4 on DVD, and just over six weeks before the January 21, 2009 start of Season 5, it was a thrill to participate in an online media roundtable with executive producers/masterminds Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Of course, getting spoilers out of them is harder than moving an island, but they did drop a few tantalizing clues about the new season, along with plenty of insights into their storytelling process, the characters that surprised them, the Stephen King novel that's still an inspiration, the cult TV show they may have ripped off and much more.
