MTV Video Music Awards 2011: The Liveblog

After the whole 2009 Kanye West/Taylor Swift fiasco, it's hard to get excited about the VMAs anymore because what could possibly top that? Last year proved that the answer to that question is certainly not "Chelsea Handler". But this year has some promise, considering there's a Hunger Games trailer, the whole no host thing and the late-breaking news that Beyonce is the first woman in the history of humanity to get pregnant. So let's watch and cross our fingers that we didn't completely waste a night on this crap.

Which Shows Should Go Host-Less Like MTV's Video Music Awards?

Which Shows Should Go Host-Less Like MTV's Video Music Awards?

Our prayers have been answered. After Chelsea Handler proved to be absolutely terrible at last year's Video Music Awards, MTV has decided to ditch tradition and have no host at Sunday night's award ceremony. There are plenty of other shows that we wish would follow this example, as well as a few we hope never try to be as ahem edgy as MTV.

Girls: The Good, the Bad and the Funny

Girls: The Good, the Bad and the Funny

I'm not entirely sure I "got" "Video Games," unless the point of it was to make me not want to see Jessa again for a while and like Hannah even more. My colleague Ethan Alter made a very good point that despite its flaws, the episode did add to the expansion of Girls's universe, thanks to the addition of beautiful Upstate New York (and last episode it was Staten Island, the episode before that, an alternate look at her own neighborhood), but beyond that, we're all kind of just waiting for next week.

Syfy Upfront: Ignite This!

Syfy Upfront: Ignite This!

Are you the kind of person who likes to put your wildest imaginings into practice? Do you not just want to watch TV, but interact with it? If so, you might just be an igniter and therefore precisely the kind of person that the Syfy network wants amongst its audience. "Igniter" was the buzzword at Syfy's upfront presentation, which unfolded Tuesday night at New York's famed American Museum of Natural History, where the famous Hall of Ocean Life (you know, the one with that giant whale suspended from the ceiling) was bathed in the network's signature purple while DJ Spooky spun records and guests feasted on dishes created by celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson. But the evening wasn't all fun and food -- Syfy also revealed its plans for the 2012-2013 season and those plans include a lot more reality, a lot fewer scripted series and a whole lot of igniter-driven interactivity between viewer and show.

Another Lost Premiere Clip: Ben and Jack, Living in Sin

by Mindy Monez December 16, 2008 11:29 am
Another Lost Premiere Clip: Ben and Jack, Living in Sin ABC has generously released another couple minutes from Lost's season premiere online today, probably to keep us all from getting stabby between now and January 21. I'm loving these sneak rollouts, by the way. Obviously, the wait for Lost to start has been excruuuuciating for everybody, so it's nice to at least have some tidbits between now and the premiere to keep us sane. It's really a public service they're doing.

Intervention: Olive Snook-Style

Intervention: Olive Snook-Style As a long time Kristin Chenoweth hater, it is with great anguish that I type this next sentence: Kristin Chenoweth's musical parody of A&E's Intervention over at Funny or Die is not only not annoying, it's also actually pretty funny, even though she's starring in it and singing a song with that elf soprano voice of hers. But then again, who isn't wildly entertaining while singing about gay prostitutes who find their johns through Craig's List to score meth? (Tip to all the hookers out there: Finding your john through Craig's List erases the need for an abusive, money-stealing pimp. Don't ask me how I know, I just know.) Delightful musical clip after the jump, Broadway and meth junkies!

TWoP 10: Shows That Give America a Bad Name… Literally

My fellow Americans (and loyal international readers) today is the one day a year we grab our flags and celebrate being from this great country by remembering the struggles that our forefathers went through. Well our forefathers would probably be rolling in their collective graves if they could see how the name "America" has been adopted by some of TV's most popular offerings. If this batch of programming is how our country is represented to the rest of the world, it isn't such a surprise that they hate us or think we are morons.
