Thanks to Videogum for hepping me to details of amazing forthcoming soap Sordid Lives, set to premiere in July on Logo. The gaystastic campfest, which is based on a cult play, will star Rue McClanahan, Beth "Sparkle Motion" Grant, Caroline Rhea, Olivia Newton-John (I know, right?!) and fag-hag par excellence Margaret Cho as a gaggle of trash-talkin', pill-,poppin', Tammy Wynette-lovin' Southern gals coming to terms with gayness all sorts. Based on the clip, I think VG has pegged the show perfectly as "Desperate Housewives meets Steel Magnolias meets a John Waters movie." In other words, pure perfection. Unlike the VG folk though, I am utterly confident that this show will completely and totally rule, despite the presence of Carson Kressly. Sordid Lives airs July 23rd on your Homo-Dial.

Hey comedy nerds, guest what! Jeffrey Tambor and Gary Cole have joined ABC's crime family-gone-straight pilot, Good Behavior. Veronica Mars and 90210 creator Rob Thomas will executive produce, while Christopher Guest regular and (woman I most wish would adopt me) Catherine O'Hara will play the family's matriarch. Rounding out the rest of the cast is DJ Qualls, Eddie Kaye Thomas and a slew of newbies.

Shirley Manson Takes on Terminators, Power Suits

Some exciting casting news for Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles -- Garbage lead singer and all-around fabulous Scotswoman Shirley Manson will be a regular next season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she'll play "Catherine Weaver, the CEO of a cutting-edge high-tech company." Ooh la la! Call me presumptuous, but methinks "cutting-edge high-tech company" probably translates to "evil cyborg factory" in the Sarah Connor universe, which is an exciting prospect. If that is the case, then might Manson be playing a sort of female Miles Dyson character? Miles Dyson with bright red hair, a Scottish accent and a Greatest Hits album? That's the sexiest thing I've heard all day.

Scout for Justice

Scout for Justice

Finally, the Boy Scouts can reconcile their dedication to exploration and community service with their burning desire to be on reality television. In a new series slated for the Outdoor Channel, most of whose shows involve shooting at things, the Boy Scouts of America and and Boys' Life magazine will team up to produce the show Scouting for Adventure, Presented by Boys' Life. The six-episode series will follow Scouts as they explore the wilderness and learn outdoor skills and teamwork at Scout camps across the country.

Fun in the Suburbs (Never Thought We'd Be Saying That) There are many that are lamenting the cancellation of Miss/Guided. I am not one of them. In fact, while I am adore Judy Greer, the series got on my nerves towards the end and I couldn't even finish watching the cringe-worthy musical episode. It literally made me groan in pain. That's never a good sign and Judy's so much better than that. I am clearly not the only one who thinks so. The perky often sidekick has landed a sweet new day job on Barry Sonnenfeld's HBO pilot Suburban Shootout, which is sort of like Desperate Housewives but, you know, funny... hopefully. According to the description, Judy finds herself caught in between "two rival gangs of homicidal housewives." Which I imagine might go something like this:

The Three Stooges

The Three Stooges

A couple weeks ago I was watching TV with my mom and I had a great idea for a reality show but I got lazy and never wrote anything up. It involved three of the dopiest guys currently on reality television, Jason Castro from American Idol, Mark Simmons from Top Chef and Erik Reichenback from Survivor: Micronesia. At that point, I just loved how they all had the same laid back and chill vibe about them, they were all fairly attractive in that cute little puppy kind of way and they just made me laugh. Now with in the span of a week, they've all been axed from their respective shows in such ridiculous ways that I kind of want them together because that much dumbness in one place has to make for some fascinating TV. Come on, like The Hills is so deep. I just want to see these three guys living in a house together and see what the hell happens, if anything, or if they just can't exist out in the real world. Now is the perfect time for them to get together and make my reality dreams come true.

There Will Be Rudd?

by Wing Chun February 19, 2008 4:41 PM
So two weekends ago I was watching my DVD of Anchorman, and then last weekend I was watching my DVD of The 40 Year Old Virgin, and then this weekend I will probably be watching my DVD of The Ten, because I really love Paul Rudd. (It wasn't so long ago that I last watched my DVD of Wet Hot American Summer, either. That kind of love.) But anyway, watching Rudd interact with Steve Carell in both Anchorman and Virgin, it made me think...why hasn't someone written a role for Rudd on The Office yet? Mindy Kaling, you played Amy, the object of Rudd's character's unrequited love in Virgin -- why haven't you made it happen? Why have they found room for (the admittedly also awesome) David Koechner (who plays Packer on The Office), but not for Rudd, a man I thought we all, as a culture, had agreed is one of our most beloved national treasures and totally adorable besides? Am I the only one who can see Rudd playing, let's say, a new CFO at Corporate making Ryan's life hell? Or maybe Pam's smarmy brother who loved Roy and therefore hates Jim? Creed's long-lost son, just as weird as his dad?

This...is how fanfic gets started, isn't it.
