Steven Keaton Soaps Up

by Lauren Gitlin August 18, 2008 4:11 PM
Steven Keaton Soaps Up Things have been hard for Michael Gross (aka Steven Keaton) since the salad days of Family Ties. According to his IMDB page, he hasn't been hurting for work, but nothing he's done, with the possible exception of a turn as a bad guy in a 2000 episode of Law & Order has been all that high-profile. Yes, Law & Order is high-profile, you guys! Shut up.

Eli Stone Has a Lot of New Friends

by Mindy Monez August 18, 2008 1:16 PM
Eli Stone Has a Lot of New Friends Finally, some stuntcasting news that doesn't make me want to stab things. After that whole Katie Holmes thing and Regis on How I Met Your Mother and anyone who's ever been in a tabloid on Ugly Betty, my rage problems were getting the best of me. Anyway, rage subsiding! Sigourney Weaver will guest on Eli Stone next season, playing Eli's psychologist, a character who, you know, kinda has her work cut out for her. Eli Stone isn't really my thing, but I love me some Sigourney Weaver, and anyone who was in Alias (Victor Garbor) or Hackers (Johnny Lee Miller) has my vote for life (yes, that includes Angelina. Yes, I still love her despite all the husband-stealing and hypocrisy and whatnot. No, my enthusiasm for Angelina does not mean I'm automatically going to try to hook up with your husband, so stop making that panicked face for crying out loud, god!), so maybe I will give the show a second chance when these episodes air. See what casting legitimate actors who can show up and play a character and actually do something useful does, Hollywood? It's effective! Now get Naomi Campbell and Nicole Richie off my TV!
The Fall of Jericho

Once upon a time, Chris Jericho was a respected and charismatic wrestling Superstar. From ECW to WCW to WWE, he only gained in popularity, earning such nicknames as Lionheart, Sexy Beast and the Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla. ...Then he took that last nickname a little too seriously and started heavily hyping his own unfortunately-named heavy-metal band, Fozzy, with such songs as "To Kill a Stranger" and "Whitechapel 1888." (To this day, I'm still not sure if they're trying to be funny.) The debatable popularity of Fozzy, who had performed in front of "thousands" and sold "hundreds of thousands" of records, led to Jericho being the first celebrity eliminated on Celebrity Duets, after singing with Peter Frampton. And with an impressive record like that, you know it couldn't be long before he was asked to host his own music-competition TV show. (Hey, it worked for Billy Ray Cyrus.)

Heroes, Meet Zeroes

I just read that Seth Green and Breckin Meyer, the comedy duo who delight millions on Robot Chicken (and delighted me, personally, as part of the boy band Du Jour in Josie and the Pussycats) are in talks to do a guest stint on Heroes as comic-book experts (probably of the nerdy variety) who instruct a hero in the ways of the superhero. While I enjoy both actors, the addition of comic book experts to the show seemed to me to be a step backwards into "meta" territory. In trying to find a way to write about it without coming across like a raving lunatic (not that I've succeeded in any of my other writing), I discussed it at length with our site director, and he actually managed to bring me around to his way of thinking. Here, in its entirety, is our debate.

It's Greek to Me Lauren Conrad will appear as a guest star on the hit ABC Family show Greek. She will be playing -- wait for it! -- herself, showing up in a dream sequence as Casey's (played by Kelsey Grammer's daughter Spencer) spiritual advisor (?!) and best friend in the second season's finale, set to air on October 28. Acting as a guide, Lauren will help Casey with a very important decision (!!!!??), probably involving some sort of love triangle. EW.com says that there will be no direct Hills references in the script but that if you're a die-hard fan you will be able to detect a Hillsian vibe. Wow, trippy! Guess LC's lining up her ducks for when her fashion career goes to hell. Oh wait.
CSI Cowboys Up, and Other Stories

Here at TwoP.com, we like to keep up on the latest casting news, so we can squeal with glee whenever we see the name of somebody we recognize. Well, I squealed with glee three times this morning, and it's not even lunch yet. Here's a few interesting tidbits, involving Pee-Wee Herman, the Devil and Peter Brady... and no, they're not the same story.

Joss Stone is joining the cast of The Tudors. And no, this is not some different show called The Tudors, it's the Showtime period drama. And no, she won't be playing some court jester-y Aretha Franklin impersonator (they had those), she'll be playing Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII. I'm going to come clean here and admit that I don't know anything about Henry VIII or his wives except that he had mental problems and killed them all, so maybe Anne of Cleves was the one who didn't say much and just kind of belted out blue-eyed soul while barefoot, because that's the only way this stuntcasting makes any sense.

Time to Face Reality, Emmys

Apparently, this year being the first year that reality show hosts are eligible for Emmy awards isn't good enough for some people. DHD has reported that, according to a "reliable source," the hosts of this year's Emmy awards ceremony will be not one, not two, not three, not six, but all five of the nominees in the Reality Host category. So if you usually watch the show to escape reality TV (despite the fact that it... is... reality TV), you're S.O.L. But if you love reality TV and want to have a million of its babies live on a major network during primetime, you are in luck.

Joey Potter's Back on the Small Screen!

I've got to thank my dear pal Michael Ausiello over at EW for this one -- he's discovered that one Miss Joey Potter will be resurfacing on the small screen in an episode of Eli Stone. Damn. I guess this means I've got to start watching this show. I tried, because of the Jack Bristow factor, but got bored after one episode. Normally I object to this kind of stuntcasting, but I'm totally selfish and that only goes for shows that I actually watch/am obsessed with. This one I don't care about, and I love me some Katie Holmes, before and after the craziness that surrounds her, Tom and Suri. She'll always be my little sweet Joey Potter. Nothing, not even Scientology, can take that away from her.

Stuntcasting Strikes Again Like it or not, as long as networks will never be satisfied with having a modest but decent enough audience for a series, stuntcasting will always be with us. So like it or not, Christina Ricci will appear in three upcoming Saving Grace episodes this season. I don't really understand why, of all the shows in the world, Ricci chose that one to guest on, considering she's pretty famous and could probably get a spot on a much bigger show, but maybe she's a fan. And working with Holly Hunter is nothing to sneeze at, so that may be the reason as well.
