The thing that is really, truly baffling about this decision is that there was already an Americanized version of Cracker, just a few years back. And it flopped. Hard. It starred that guy who painted stuff on Murphy Brown and aired for one brief season on ABC in the late '90s. But apparently TNT is not one to learn from ABC's mistakes (though their Cracker wasn't terrible ... just a little too much on the dull side) and has decided that they can make a go of it. Yeah. While we love people who drink and smoke at work (a la Mad Men) and cantankerous but brilliant people (see also House), if this character couldn't succeed here before, why now? Is it because these other shows have enjoyed some recent success that TNT believes a Cracker 2.0 stands a chance? Possibly, either that or they are plum out of ideas. I'm leaning towards that. Personally, I'd rather just watch the original ... unless they cast someone totally genius in the role and then I'll be watching, despite my better judgment.
