This week's Glee takes on the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show with a typical Glee spin, and while the show has done songs from famed musicals before (as well as artist-themed episodes), this is the first time it's lifted all of an episode's tunes from one single movie. So that got us thinking about all of the other movie musicals (not just stage ones, though we'd love to see Lea Michele reprise her Spring Awakening role, or see Rachel and Quinn do "Popular" from Wicked) that would potentially make excellent fodder for the New Directions gang. Here's our wish list:
There are reports that in order to get her to judge American Idol next season, Jennifer Lopez had a laundry list of demands that went far beyond a hefty sum of cash. The latest news is that she may be getting $12 million -- a tidy chunk of change for sitting on her butt and telling people that they are pitchy for a few months -- but not the deal to do more Fox shows and movies that she supposedly wanted. Nor, we're guessing, does her contract include any of the below provisions that she may have been tempted to ask for:
Billy Joel haters, please leave now. This is now officially a Billy Joel lovefest, one in which the news that his entire catalog is now open for Glee to use in an upcoming episode is greeted with excitement, and not dismay. Let's face it, the man has some amazing songs -- including "Piano Man," which Neil Patrick Harris memorably sang last season -- and as long as they don't use anything from his last album, 1993's River of Dreams, we'll be gleefully tuning in to the episode when it airs. We've even come up with a bunch of scenarios that might result in the New Directions kids belting out some Joel.
The powers behind Glee announced at Comic-Con that they will do a Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed episode next season. While we'd be happy if this just meant that the characters would be dressing up and doing a midnight audience participation performance of the show to raise money for New Directions, we'd be really thrilled if it was a Halloween episode that did a full-on tribute to the cult musical and movie. Here are our suggestions on how we'd cast it.
Hugh Laurie is a man of many talents: Drama, comedy, boxing, charity, security, raising Stuart Little, etc., and now, naturally, he is recording a blues album. Sure, why not? I'm sure Band from TV is fun, but not terribly rewarding creatively, and the same could be said for the past couple seasons of House, likely minus the fun part -- the man probably needs an outlet. But what will the album's tracklisting look like? It's time to look up some blues standards on Wikipedia and guess.
This is it: the last American Idol exit interview! Last week, we talked to Lee DeWyze about winning the competition, and now we've got runner-up Crystal Bowersox, who talked to a conference call full of people about the quitting rumors, the break-up, the "girls' season" theories, Simon's replacement and why she knew it was going to be Lee in that winner's confetti.
Considering how much hype there was around Glee's "The Power of Madonna," we were delighted that it didn't disappoint. With its success, series creator Ryan Murphy is now playing with the idea of an all-Britney Spears episode. We love the thought of it, and think that Britney's catchy, theatrical music would totally adapt to the Glee universe. Here are some of our picks for what each of the show's stars should sing.
Hearts have been broken across America, because hunky sensation Tim Urban has been voted off of American Idol. Granted, the hearts of those who didn't vote for him are probably still intact, but I fear we have only made him more powerful than before, as his path to domination of our airwaves and/or televisions is now clear. For now, we have the results of a conference call he did the day after elimination, where he proved his usual, happy, charming, well-balanced self, no matter how much interviewers tried to get him riled up. Read on as he reacts to the shirtless photo excitement and the possibility of appearing on the Disney Channel or Glee.
Somewhere, an American Idol is crying. Actually, they're probably all crying, either due to a frustrating rehearsal, missing their family or something mean Simon Cowell said, but one in particular, Didi Benami, has become known for shedding tears at the drop of a hat. And now that she's been voted off the show after a so-so rendition of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted," she's either weeping tears of joy at the lack of viewer support or tears of happiness for not having to be in any more Ford commercials. Either way, we spoke to her as part of a conference call, and she talked about how Idol is like Los Angeles, why she lived in her car and how she's really not that emotional a person under normal circumstances. Try not to cry too much.
While we never got to know her as well as the others, American Idol contestant Paige Miles was moderately successful with rockin' numbers like "All Right Now," which became more difficult when she developed laryngitis and couldn't really belt them out like she used to. (She's not the first one to come down with it, either.) So while "Honky Tonk Woman" was at least an attempt at being fun and raucous, "Against All Odds" was weak and spotty, and she was voted off just shy of making the Top 10. We sat in on a conference call where she talked about her illness, the song choice process and how to deal with contradictory judges.
