I have to admit that I wasn't so jazzed for the new batch of webisodes for Battlestar Galactica. Usually I have a hard time getting engaged in this show, when it is dispensed in three minute segments. However, I do adore Grace Park, so I gave it a whirl, and so far, so good. The first installment of "The Face of the Enemy" went up today. (You can watch it here.) Nine days after the finale when we saw the destroyed planet Earth, Gaeta's in a raptor, covered in blood, and we're given a little bit of a preview of what's to come in the rest of the nine parts of this webisode series. Needles, knives, chaos. Looks good.
Then we jump three days back. When Gaeta is still on Galactica in the CIC with Tigh and looking worn out. Tigh forces him to take a trip to the Zephyr for a little R&R. Gaeta heads off, but in the hallway meets up with Hoshi, who has some morphine to help with the pain from his amputation. And then they kiss! Awesome. Gaeta's got a totally adorable boyfriend!
Gaeta heads off to a transport raptor where he's seated next to two Eights, and a mechanic named Brooks. But just as they approach the Zephyr, the pilots are told there are hostile Cylons around and they need to jump ASAP, so they do, but when they arrive at their destination, there are no other ships to be found. This is like my worst freakin' nightmare. The episodes with pilots alone in ships in the middle of space give me the heebie jeebies.
You also have the option of watching the webisodes with commentary from the writers, which is awesome. Jane Espenson (Buffy!) does the talking, but she says she co-wrote this series with Seamus Fahey, who came up with the concept. It's cool, because she talks about how the sets were literally being torn down around them while they were filming this. She also reveals that they had originally written it with Narcho as Gaeta's love interest, instead of Hoshi, but because of scheduling, Hoshi got the gig. Which she says worked out better, as far as Season 4. Hmm... I'm trying to puzzle that one out. She also talks about how amazing Grace Park is, flipping between "Pilot Eight" and "Sweet Eight." Considering my love for Grace Park, I have no doubt she's more than capable of handling anything they throw at her.
Your thoughts? Does this get you even more excited for the show's return? Or do you not really care about Gaeta and his love life?
