After the recent lackluster Comedy Awards on Comedy Central, I thought I needed a break before the TV Land Awards air Sunday. But as I was watching RuPaul's Drag Race, I saw footage from the red carpet at the NewNowNext Awards and just couldn't help checking it out. And I'm glad I did, because while the actual awards part was entirely pointless (it wasn't like they were handing out Oscars, after all), the telecast was filled with over-the-top insanity and so many things I personally adore. Plus, 30 Rock and Lady Antebellum didn't win anything! Oh, and did I mention that this whole thing came in under an hour and a half? Or that James Van Der Beek was the host? Yeah, it had it all. Here are the highlights:

If you missed last summer's gay farming sensation The Fabulous Beekman Boys (and you likely did, as it's on Discovery property Planet Green, which no one has heard of), I highly recommend jumping into the show's second season premiere tonight. The show, about a gay couple from NYC trying to maintain a farm in the country, is some of the most enjoyable light entertainment on television, and whether you're into gay shows or goat shows, it's got a little something for everyone.

Brothers & Sisters will be sputtering out one more, abbreviated season this year (and yes, possibly more than that, but -- c'mon), and while that certainly sounds ill-advised and unnecessary, at least some of the show's most annoying and/or misused characters won't be returning. If you're still watching it out of loyalty or just sheer masochism, here are some reasons this season might not be quite as terrible as you're accustomed to.

It's early yet, but American Idol is already cleaning house for next season. Not all of it is official, but most of the news seems pretty definite, at least for the time being. Ellen's out (that's been confirmed). Kara's probably out, and being replaced by J.Lo. Randy, easily the most universally hated judge in the show's history, is reportedly staying, for reasons I cannot for the life of me discern. Seacrest isn't going anywhere, of course, and then there's the most baffling of all the news: Steven Tyler may replace Simon. Well, that should be terrifying.

I was slightly worried about the new format of Degrassi, in which the TeenNick show goes from a weekly series and turns into a show that airs four nights a week. I thought it might be overkill, especially given that fact that while I've watched the show since I was a teenager (back when now-Principal Snake was just a student himself) my interest in the show had started to wane in the last season. The plots were sort of simple and ground that the show had covered before, or just mere placeholders until favorites like Manny or Emma or Marco could return for an episode. However, with "The Boiling Point" (the moniker for this nightly-serialized run) has really upped the ante and renewed my interest in the show. Here's why....

It's an Alloy show on ABC Family that even The CW passed on, so naturally it was assumed that Pretty Little Liars would be one of summer's biggest pieces of disposable crap. Then a strange thing happened -- when the pilot finally aired, it was obvious to everyone that this was not your average ABC Family show. Pretty Little Liars is almost edgy, as outdated a term as that is, and it's far more enjoyable in an unironic way than I ever thought it would be. In fact, aside from The OCD Project, it might just be the most compelling summer show on right now. I've attempted to examine why below.

Considering how much hype there was around Glee's "The Power of Madonna," we were delighted that it didn't disappoint. With its success, series creator Ryan Murphy is now playing with the idea of an all-Britney Spears episode. We love the thought of it, and think that Britney's catchy, theatrical music would totally adapt to the Glee universe. Here are some of our picks for what each of the show's stars should sing.

Brothers & Sisters is a deeply flawed show, what with its dropped decent plot points, unkillable bad plot points, and frequent inability to move forward, but it's long been one of my favorite guilty pleasures for its cast and loud, dysfunctional (sometimes food) fights. And last night, we got a pretty great episode, actually, all things considered. There was the welcomed end to Rebecca and Justin's baby storyline, the extremely welcomed end of the Holly-selling-her-Ojai-shares-to-a-Walker-hater storyline and an actually believable and mature conclusion of a relationship (a real rarity on this show) with Sarah and Roy realizing that they're not right for each other. But most importantly, we also got Gilles Marini back. The cheesy, wonderfully soapy, romance novel of a plot that is the Gilles Marini and Sarah Walker love affair.

When news broke yesterday that The Hills/The City supporting character Kelly Cutrone would be getting her own Bravo series, we basically lost our collective minds in the TWoP offices. Kelly Cutrone is an unsung badass of "reality" television, and we all need an hour of her awesomeness in our lives each week. Which got me thinking about a few other supporting reality cast members I'd like to see get their own shows. Drumroll!

We were lucky enough to get a screener of the season premiere of Friday Night Lights (it debuted last night on DIRECTV and will air sometime in 2010 on NBC for the rest of us mortals) and after watching it, I'm not sure that I can wait until midseason for my fix of this show. The premiere was just that good. I wish I could get DIRECTV at my house... or at least find a friend who would let me visit every Wednesday. Here are the five things I liked most about the episode and that had me reconsidering my television provider. Fair warning, spoilers ahead.
