For those of you Anglophiles who already know of the awesomeness that is the British comedy Peep Show, it's time for rejoicing. And for those who don't, hear ye: there's this British comedy, it's called Peep Show, and it is awesome. There. Oh, did you want to know what it's about? How about this? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is "a modern-day Odd Couple centering on Jeremy (Rob Chester Smith), a slacker with misguided musical ambitions, and Mark (Brad Morris), his uptight, office-drone roommate, who are living together and trying to survive the many unexpected hurdles life throws at them. The stories are told with what is described as a 'unique' first-person perspective and voice-over from the characters." I'd add to that simply that it's super-bawdy, and features unfortunate teeth. There, that should do it. Anyway.
A couple years back, the dummies at Fox tried to Americanize it in the manner of The Office, only they totally totally effed it up and it was terrible and the thing justifiably tanked. Well, the good folks at Spike TV have resurrected our (my) hope, and this time they're involving the original writers of the show, which ought to ensure that it retains its friggin' awesomeness. The first pilot has wrapped shooting, and with luck, this puppy will stick. The difficulty with all these sorts of shows is in whether or not the humor will translate, but if the aforementioned example of The Office is any indication, us Amurrricans aren't soooo dense that we can't appreciate a little wry, British-style humor. And if there's one thing that's universally relatable, it's the trials and travails of a couple of schlubby guys trying like the dickens to get laid. Here's hoping Spike's gambit pays off, cuz I'm sick of having to watch old episodes on my computer.
