Fringe Gets a Whole Season!

Fringe Gets a Whole Season! I'm still upset over the impending cancellation of Sarah Connor, but at least there is some good TV news in the world to balance it out. Fringe has been given the official full-season order, adding an additional 13 episodes to its original nine. If you bust out a calculator and add those two numbers together like I did, you get 22 whole episodes! That's downright respectable! The show got a ratings bump up to 10 million viewers from nine million last week, and is the number one new show with the 18-49ers, making it the exact opposite of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, thus Fox is into it.

Don LaFontaine, 1940-2008

Don LaFontaine, 1940-2008

When watching movie trailers, audiences are usually so entranced by the images they're shown that few people think about the voice that's telling them what the movie's about. Of course, if the voice is doing its job right, you don't have to think about it; only a bad voice-over jars you out of the scenes you're watching. A good voice-over will make you think some omnipotent deity is inside your head, filling you in on the details, and more often than not, Don LaFontaine was that omnipotent deity. Sadly, he passed away on September 1, which means he just got a lot more omnipotent, and one step closer to deification.

TWoP 10 Best Ways to Spend the Rest of Summer

It's August already, which means that the vast wasteland of summer television is about to turn into a flurry of new shows, and finally our favorites will be back on the air with new episodes. (I barely even remember where Heroes and Pushing Daisies left off, it's been so long!) So before your TiVo gets overstuffed with Knight Rider episodes, here are some things you should make a point to do ASAP. This way, you'll have something good to put in your mandatory "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" blog. Don't panic, people -- none of these ideas involve going outdoors. Heaven forbid. All you need is your computer, maybe Netflix and a DVD player to get started!

Showtime is Buggin'

by Mindy Monez July 9, 2008 3:16 pm
Showtime is Buggin' Showtime is teaming with Dexter producer Sara Colleton for Exterminators, a new series the good people at The Hollywood Reporter inform us is like "Six Feet Under in the world of pest control." Neato! (Though it did make me wonder -- which is grosser, dealing with insect infestations or embalming the dead? It's subjective, I suppose. I say embalming the dead, but spiders are admittedly really, really scary.)

Farewell, Stan Winston

by Tippi Blevins June 17, 2008 12:47 pm
Farewell, Stan Winston Academy Award-winning special effects and makeup artist Stan Winston died Sunday at his Malibu home after a seven-year battle with multiple myeloma. He was 62. Winston managed to be a creative force despite his illness, overseeing the creation of the physical suit for the Iron Man pic and serving as special effects supervisor for the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins in cahoots with his employees at Stan Winston Studio.
