If moving a television show to Fridays is the kiss of death, moving it to Saturdays is burying it and holding the funeral.

Pan Am: Christina Ricci Invites Us to Fly the Friendly Skies

ABC's new '60s-era airline drama Pan Am takes its maiden flight on Sunday night, fueled by strong word of mouth (it made our list of must-see fall shows) and a cast that includes Kelli Garner, Mike Vogel and Christina Ricci, star of such films as The Opposite of Sex, Sleepy Hollow and, perhaps most memorably, both of the Addams Family movies, where she played the quintessential Goth daughter, Wednesday. In advance of the show's premiere, Ricci and the Pan Am creator Jack Orman spoke with the press about the show's direction, the mod fashions and a very special Beatles episode.

TWoP 10: Worst Moms on TV This Season

It's that time of year when we honor all that mothers do for their children. Though in the case of the television personalities below, being a good mom consists of pimping out your kids or hitting them with an actual hammer. Yes, these are some really special women. So happy Mother's Day and be grateful that these women didn't give birth to you.

TWoP 10: Why American Idol Is Surprisingly Good This Season

We admit that we were more than a little skeptical when we heard that Simon was leaving American Idol and that they'd ousted all of the other judges besides the typically useless Randy Jackson. And we were still skeptical after the first couple of audition episodes in which Steven Tyler was just talking crazy and Jennifer Lopez refused to be mean. But since the first Hollywood week, this season has completely turned around, and instead of hoping that it would fade away after this year, we're totally enjoying it. Well, as much as we can enjoy a glorified karaoke competition. Here's why Idol is now better than it's been in ages:

TWoP 10: WB Shows That the CW Should Remake

TWoP 10: WB Shows That the CW Should Remake

At the Television Critics Association summer press tour, The CW honcho Dawn Ostroff recently told reporters that they were considering remaking more classic shows. Well, given how terrible 90210 and the one episode of Melrose Place I've seen are, that seems like a horrible idea. Still, if they're going to go ahead with this, there are plenty of short-lived or underrated shows from the great (and greatly missed) WB network that could make The CW much better than it's been in its short history, and they can do it without ruining our somewhat fond memories of shows like Dawson's, Everwood or Gilmore Girls.

Seven Luckiest TV Characters While not all of these characters have the luck of the Irish per se, they have somehow managed to live charmed lives. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, we sought out the TV folks who were truly the luckiest people for a variety of reasons. See who made our list.

Movie Predictions For 2009: Not As Crazy As They Sound If we look carefully at the movie trends of 2008, it's not hard to make a few predictions for the year ahead. Sure, some of these may seem kind of crazy, or maybe they sound flat-out impossible. But just remember these seven words: Steven Soderbergh to direct Cleopatra rock musical. Anything can happen, so get in on the ground floor of these predictions while you can!

WTF? Wolvie To Host Oscars?!

by Lauren Gitlin December 12, 2008 3:30 pm
WTF? Wolvie To Host Oscars?! I'm gonna make this brief because I feel like I've contributed quite enough bile to today's various blogs. But I'm real perplexed as to why the Oscars have elected to have Hugh Jackman host this year's telecast. They'd already made it clear that they were looking to cut down on the "funny" bits, and with this announcement, they've preeeetty much confirmed that this year's show is going to be even more boring than in years past. Everyone knows that the best parts of the Oscars are the red carpet fashions and the cheesy hosts' cheesy attempts at comedy. They've just done away with half the reason I watch. What if god forbid this year's bevy of starlets get themselves awesome stylists and nary a sartorial trainwreck shows itself on the pre-show? WTF am I gonna have to look forward to (making fun of)?
