Vocal Adrenaline: Why You Should Be Watching The Sing-Off

This singing competition has been quietly airing during December for the last two years, spotlighting a capella groups and airing only a handful of episodes. But while The Sing-Off doesn't get as much attention as American Idol or America's Got Talent or the forthcoming X Factor, it really is one of the best vocal-adrenaline-filled shows on television. If you haven't been watching, this season is already off to a great start -- and here's why it's worth checking out:

The Most Heinous Person on Reality TV This Week

The Most Heinous Person on Reality TV This Week

It's the week of Jersey Shore and yet those morons weren't the worst people on TV... yet. Let's give them time, shall we? In the meantime, see who did make the cut.

Famous Food: TV’s Biggest Trainwrecks in One Convenient Place

I'm going to be honest here: I spent most of the first episode of this show transfixed by Heidi Montag's boobs in her pink shirt. Not in a pervy way, but because I was trying to figure out if she was wearing a strangely textured bra, was sitting at an odd angle or if her nipples actually point in two separate directions. When that is the most fascinating part of a series that has some of reality's most biggest nightmares, it's probably a bad omen.

ABC's 2011 Upfront Presentation: Quantity, Yes, But Quality? Not So Much

Instead of leading off with Jimmy Kimmel to get us warmed up and excited about these new shows, ABC's upfront presentation jumped right in, so Jimmy didn't come out to make the obligatory gay/British jokes about his new boss Paul Lee until halfway through the event. Actually, thirty minutes in was perfect timing for him because that was about when I become fairly horrified with the new crop of shows. But even Kimmel seemed off his game, making easy jokes about CBS ("More people die watching CBS than any other network") and NBC ("they'll be selling their ads on Groupon this year") and Fox's X-Factor ("It's like American Idol meets a mirror"). He did get in some decent cracks about the upfronts in general: "Remember those shows that we were so excited about last fall? We cancelled all of them... and yet here you are again. We think you might have a gambling problem." Not unfunny, but he was better in previous years. As for the network's gobs and gobs of new shows? They've been better in years past, too. There wasn't a single one that blew me away or cracked me up the way that Lost or Modern Family had done at first glance.

TWoP 10: TV Apologies We Want to See

This week on TV, famous people felt the need to apologize publicly: Ellen DeGeneres apologized to Apple for making fun of the iPhone (like Apple should really be worried what a comedienne says about a product that has taken over the world) and Elisabeth Hasselbeck said sorry to Erin Andrews for basically saying that she's asking for more stalkers with her skimpy Dancing With the Stars outfits. While we're sort of over all of this recent mea culpa stuff in front of cameras (Tiger Woods, we blame you), there are a few more apologies that we think are in order. Maybe Ellen can start with telling us how sorry she is for joining Idol but then contributing nothing of value, and then move on the following:

TWoP 10: Summer's Guiltiest Pleasures (So Far)

For years we've been conditioned to lower our TV expectations during the warmer months, seeking out shows that we would never allow to clutter our overstuffed DVRs at any other time of year. But even though it's only early June, there's already an unusually high amount of truly addictive television - shows that we should be ashamed to watch, but aren't. Here's our top ten favorite guilty viewing pleasures of the summer so far.

What better way to take your mind off of Watchmen and the entirely virtual nerd-fights it has inspired than by reading some excitingly nerdy TV news? There's a lot of exciting casting news today, mostly about aliens, vampires and superheroes, plus some news that might make your head explode, like in that movie Scanners. Basically, this entire news roundup is a sci-fi horror show. And it's all true, or at least rumored to be true. Watchmen, what have ye wrought?!

Veronica Mars: Action Hero

Veronica Mars: Action Hero

All right, I may have lured you in under some false pretenses. There will never, ever be Veronica Mars action figures. There are a few busts of Veronica and Logan Echolls, but manufacturing action figures is far too expensive a process for the few thousand they would likely sell. Heroes, on the other hand, is still on the air -- and still pretty popular, despite last season's meanderings -- which means the action figures are coming fast and furious. Hmm... What Veronica Mars cast member is on Heroes now? Let me think...

TWoP 10 Reasons We're Glad Summer Is Over

TWoP 10 Reasons We're Glad Summer Is Over There are a lot of great things about summer. It's not cold outside anymore, your seasonal depression clears up all on its own, and you can give your Tivo a break because none of the important shows are on for a while! OK, OK, there are a few exceptions, but for every Mad Men there are about a hundred I Love Moneys. Here are the reasons we're most excited for life to get back to normal next month, TV-wise.
