BLOGS
Now that he's less "bizarre" and more "kinda weird" to mainstream audiences thanks to a ton of exposure since the first time he hosted Saturday Night Live, Zach Galifianakis was able to pull off more experimental gags this week on SNL -- and they were less totally inaccessible than they were the second time he hosted. The former half of the episode was tight, funny and definitely a success by current SNL standards... the latter, not so much. Let's focus on the sketches worth watching:
"Cold Opening: Fox & Friends Interview"
The show obviously had to cover Jason Collins coming out and the soda ban, and getting both topics out of the way through the Fox & Friends gang was a great choice. The confessions were satisfying, and Bobby Moynihan's physical comedy was a lot of fun:
"Zach Galifianakis Monologue 3"
Though the piano was expected, it was pretty much mandatory and did not disappoint. Even if you don't generally like Galifianakis' humor, as a stand-up set, there's a lot of good stuff in here.
"Game of Game of Thrones"
We obviously loved this as Game of Thrones geeks, and I found the "You must be home with the flu during the day because you're watching E!" joke to be eerily accurate to my life right now. Don't know a thing about GoT and don't quite understand the first minute of the sketch? Never fear -- the gag opens itself up three questions in, at just the right time.
"Match.com"
Kate McKinnon was flawless, and I hope this is the beginning of a lot more SNL Martha Stewart jokes. It's been too long.
"Darrell's House II"
Save yourself three minutes and forty seconds by skipping "Darrell's House I" (in a rare two-parter sketch) and instead watching this "edited" version of a video about a freaky dude with emotional issues who is getting ready to have people over his house for the first time. Something tells me you'll be able to fill in your own blanks.
