When not busy writing about Big Brother, 24 and a host of other shows for us here at TWoP, M. Giant (aka Jeff Alexander) apparently found a way to use his vast knowledge of television for good instead of evil. He's penned a must-have guide for television junkies called A TV Guide to Life: How I Learned Everything I Needed to Know from Watching Television. It is in stores now (and available at amazon.com) and if you enjoy his recaps, you'll love his thoughts on life via the boob tube.
Jeff's broken down the wild world of television into easy to digest (and snarky ... though that should go without saying) chapters on how his life's milestones have been chronicled on TV. He even uses footnotes (classy!), but don't be scared that this is all highbrow or intellectual, this is fun summer reading where the footnotes are more personal asides and just as entertaining as the rest of the book. (Note: We may be a little biased since he works for us, but we're so proud of him we just can't help it!).
SPOILER ALERT: OK, more of a teaser alert, but here are some of the insights you can look forward to when you buy the book (which is available now, if we haven't mentioned that already). Jeff delves into how romantic workplace relationships can not only be damaging to TV shows but also to careers and film franchises, and has some sage tips on determining if you are the oddball among your group of friends (and advice on what to do if you are the Phoebe). Oh, and my favorite part, how to know when you are being lied to. Valuable information, and so very, very true.
So go ahead, peel yourself away from the TV and internet for a minute and grab a copy to support our own M. Giant. It is the least we can all do since he willingly rots his brain for months at a time doggedly writing about Big Brother for the amusement of you, our loyal readers.
