Much has been bitched about how this country's leading comedians allegedly won't and/or can't find anything to make fun of Barack Obama about, but we both know that's not really accurate. Plenty of funny has been had this year regarding the guy, and I've found the greatest hits (that were available on Hulu, largely) for us all to enjoy on this, the most historically congested traffic day in the history of Washington, D.C., and posted them below. And I do apologize to all of you fine Canadians (we love you!) who can't watch the Hulu clips, but in this isolated case you have to admit, this is kind of our day. We have Hulu access, you have universal health care. I think we're even.

Like any good American and New Yorker, I watched last night's election coverage in a bar. The particular bar I was in had about 12 giant TV screens tuned to Fox, CNN and MSNBC, so I got a pretty well-rounded exposure to the coverage, and to several glasses of something called a "Blue State Shooter," which was in a pilsner glass, so it technically was not a shooter, but that's not the point of this post. My point is that CNN had the most entertaining coverage, for the following three reasons: 1) They had Anderson Cooper, who is America's sweetheart (also, it may have been the Blue State Shooters playing tricks on my eyes, but I swore I noticed for the first time that Andy is shorter than Wolf Blitzer, which just blew my mind all apart), 2) Paul Begala is the funniest man on television and I'm not exaggerating, and 3) THEY HAD HOLOGRAMS LIKE IN STAR WARS! I'm serious! It was like a less sad version of when Superman would get messages from his dead parents in the Fortress of Solitude! It was like if Kirk and Bones spontaneously started talking about the 2008 election when they came back from a mission!

Oooohh! HBO has optioned a scripted series based on a 1989 tell-all-ish book, Fortune's Children, which chronicled the demise of the robber baron clan the Vanderbilts! This would seem to fall under the rubric of that ever-popular moneyed-asshole programming I was mentioning earlier, except that it is slightly (slightly) more high-brow because 1) it is on HBO! 2) it is based on one of those fancy old-fashioned things called "books" and not merely the invention of some money-hungry reality show producer type and 3) it is not a reality show, but a re-enactment of real historical events! That actually happened! And definitely weren't embellished in any way for the book, nor will be for the purposes of dramatic TV effect! Be that as it may, it will still deal with the kind of subject matter that I can really get into, that being rich people who act like dumdums. Throw in Kennedys-meets-Faulkner calibur family dysfunction and (crossing fingers!) a cameo from my very favorite Vanderbilt Andy Cooper and we've got the makings of a goddamned hit, people! It's like The Tudors minus all the tapestry and beheadings and crap!
