Great Moments In Real TV, Really Ridiculous Reality Shows, That's F&*!ed Up, The Biz
TV Land is So Over RerunsOne of the few remaining cable nets with a unique brand identity is kicking that narrowcasting ish to the curb, son! TV Land told the Wall Street Journal that by the end of 2009, 50% of their programming will be original series. It's so hard to say goodbye to my Sunday afternoon hungover viewings of Bonanza, but the good news is that they'll be focusing on creating trashy reality shows. Because we need more of those. The article highlights one such gem, Cougar, which is exactly what it sounds like: a Bachelorette for older ladies looking for younger gents. They'll also be looking to air reruns of more recent series, like Friends. Because we need more of those.

Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith, the ladies who penned 10 Things I Hate About You, Legally Blonde and The House Bunny, are currently developing a series with ABC about their creative process, friendship and, as ABC Studios (hilariously) puts it, their "(mis)adventures in Hollywood." I'd have gone all out and said "(miss adventures)" instead to really drive the point home, but that's just me. Apparently the creative process they speak of is some crazy champagne-and-therapy marathon, which sounds simultaneously awesome, teary, and expensive, which... kind of sounds like it would make a great series? Am I crazy, or does this thing actually sound good? Let's get into it.

Can't They Just Leave Well Enough Alone?, Everything's Better With Music, Really Ridiculous Reality Shows
So Much Better Than BeforeLast night was the finale of Legally Blonde: The Musical: The Search for the Next Elle Woods: In Which We Find Some Girl Who Can Sort of Sing and Sort of Dance But is Definitely Blonde (or at Least She Can Be With Dye and A Wig) and the second half of the debut of High School Musical: Get in the Picture: At Least As An Extra In the Background Somewhere, But Nowhere Near Our Actual Precious Stars and while I realize that I kind of bashed Legally Blonde, it was infinitely better than High School Musical. This is surprising to me because I sort of love High School Musical (the movies) in that I'm still obsessed with teen programming even though I'm in my mid-30's [Ed's note: Early thirties! -- LG], but really didn't care much when I saw Legally Blonde on Broadway.

Glutton for punishment (and Broadway junkie) that I am, I felt compelled to tune into the premiere of Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods last night. While this new reality series, which will make the hopes and dreams of one lucky perky wannabe actress come true, it is not living up to my fantasy Broadway reality casting show (which looks something like A Chorus Line) it is far better than the Grease: You're The One That I Want drek that was pawned off on unsuspecting Americans looking for a good cheery American Idol-esque show last summer.
