Love her or hate her, Jillian Michaels can scare an obese person thin like nobody else on weight loss television, and now she is taking her game to people's homes in Losing It with Jillian. In anticipation for Tuesday's premiere, Dr. Phillian herself participated in a media call to discuss the new show, how she hopes it will repair her crazy, screaming image, how she used to be fat, and how the show is more realistic than The Biggest Loser. Jillian Michaels is a polarizing figure when she's just a supporting character on The Biggest Loser, so I imagine people are simply exploding with opinions over her starring turn in Losing It with Jillian. I'm not particularly interested in breaking down in detail what's healthy and what's bullshit about her training approach (this isn't a fitness blog), but there is a lot to say about the show. The premiere was interesting, at least, and it's rare that I can say that about a summer show.
It's summertime, so we've happily lowered our standards in regard to what we'll watch on television. But there is low and then there are shows that we're more than a little bit ashamed to admit that we not only watch... but actually enjoy. On occasion we discover shows like Pretty Little Liars, which we think we're going to have to DVR in secret but that then turn out to be genuinely well done. Or shows like True Blood, which is basically sexy vampire porn, but are OK because all our friends watch, too. But the rest of them... well, they wind up on our don't ask, don't tell list.
