My love of Drop Dead Diva is well documented. I should be more ashamed of it than I am (and believe me, I'm pretty ashamed of it), but you know how it is: summertime, lowered expectations, Legally Blonde nostalgia, etc. -- I can't help it! And while last night's Season 3 premiere was just as mindlessly pleasing as this show has always been (minus the painfully lingering Grayson-as-Jane's-soulmate-arc that won't die even though it really should), while watching it I had a lot of, for lack of a better term, "that's so Raven!"-esque moments whenever the episode dipped into its most stereotypically Drop Dead Diva writing and directing wells. There were dozens of these moments last night, but the following are the eight most prominent.

I'll be blunt: today's headlines feature more dreadful news (extra TV face time for Rachael Ray and Mario Lopez) than stuff to look forward to (Betty White on another NBC show). But you can be the judge of that (I'll judge you for liking Rachael Ray, though).

Every so often we come across a news item here at TWoP that just makes us wonder why certain individuals in show business do not seem to require sleep. They have way more jobs than would seem necessary to provide a decent living, and they show no signs of stopping. I've accused ABC in-house creative genius Greg Berlanti of being one such (possibly undead) individual in the past, but today some Mario Lopez information was announced that had me asking, in my best In Living Color sketch voice, "How many jobs you got, Mario Lopez?"

I've asked Greg Berlanti. I've even asked Mario Lopez. And now, with the announcement that he's got a possible 16 shows coming to a TV near you, the time has come to channel In Living Color's immortal "Hey Mon!" to ask Mark Burnett: "How many jobs you got?!" The brain behind Survivor, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader and The Apprentice recently told TV Week he has "10 series in various stages of posting and prepping, as well as five or six pilots," on his work schedule at the moment. I'm going to be conservative and assume that his returning and current shows are included in the above numbers, so the official tally is a mind-boggling 15 or 16 jobs! Wow! I never thought I'd say this, Greg Berlanti and Mario Lopez, but next to Mark Burnett, you two are lazy bums.

In the world of dancing competitions shows So You Think You Can Dance is my first love, but America's Best Dance Crew is moving up and finishing a close second lately. The thing that I enjoy about both of them? Aside from the fact that they both involve Shane Sparks... is that they expect their people to be talented and rise to challenges, unlike say Dancing With the Stars where the celebrities need to be coddled until they are passable, or Master of Dance where the talentless are celebrated for merely being able to shake their ass to the tune of the music. On my favorite shows nobody contenders become household names by seriously tearing up the dance floor.
