For some reason, Fox won't admit J.Lo is back for the next season of American Idol...
-
A female football coach will replace Glee's Coach Ken Tanaka and SYTYCD EP and judge Nigel Lythgoe may return to Idol to get rid of the current judges...this isn't just wishful thinking, this is today's news...

Save for Breaking Bad's sorely disappointing hiatus from our screens, Adventures in Reality Television is the pervading theme of today's news roundup -- most notably the planning of a convention for reality show fans to congregate and obsess in all things fame-whorish and brain-damaging. I'm totally reserving tickets.

Ex-American Idol executive producer and SYTYCD judge Nigel Lythgoe may be the next American Idol judge (is Fox really that lazy?), and TV news gets a blast from the past with Carol Burnett, Lou Ferrigno and Ryan O'Neal. Can you figure which one of these three we'd rather not see in today's news?...

Don't get me wrong. I love So You Think You Can Dance. I aspire to be on America's Best Dance Crew (despite the fact that I can't hip-hop dance AT ALL). I kinda secretly adore the chaos of Dancing With the Stars. But I'm not sure I really needed another dance show. And yet, the adorable Nigel Lythgoe (and producing partner Simon Fuller) are unleashing Superstar Dancers of the World (which is thankfully listed as a working title and needs to be changed ASAP) on America sometime early next year.

All summer long I've been thinking that So You Think You Can Dance is better than American Idol, and clearly I'm not the only one. Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is ditching his post behind-the-scenes on Idol in order to focus more on his gig exec. producing and judging the summer-long dance competition. One might think the man is crazy for leaving his presumably well-paying job on the insanely highly rated singing show, but maybe he'd just had enough of Seacrest. Plus, this is the guy who willingly sits next to scream queen Mary Murphy on a regular basis so he's got to be more than a little nuts.

How the hell have I never seen this show before? I mean, I don't watch all of the shows on Fox Reality, but I love all things Nigel Lythgoe related (I worship him on So You Think You Can Dance), so I can't fathom how this one slipped past my radar. Lythgoe and Ken Warwick (Idol executive producers) have a series that follows their purchase of a Vineyard (which apparently has been a dream for the best friends and former dancers). The series has the best name, Corkscrewed: The Wrath of Grapes, and shows the trials and tribulations of the rich and famous, and also features some other familiar faces, Simon, Randy and Ryan. It's basically insane and big on hyping all their other shows. It starts a little slow, but damn, I'm working my way though the episodes now and I'm hooked. I've so got other stuff to be doing... but I can't help myself.

Those HBO people are a bunch of nerds! Apparently John Adams was just the tip of the historical non-fiction iceberg for the cabler, because David Simon and Tom Fontana, creators of The Wire and Oz, respectively, are teaming up to bring us the story of the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth following the assassination he carried out against that one guy to the small screen. The miniseries will be based on James L. Swanson's book, Manhunt, with Simon and Fontana serving as scriptwriters and executive producers, which -- and don't take this the wrong way, people who made John Adams -- is likely going to make John Adams look like a Wipeout marathon by comparison with that duo behind it. The project is still coming together and no launch date has been announced yet, but you know how HBO is. They don't keep things like that a secret. On a related note, I'd just like to put it out there that if Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller were to maybe make a miniseries about Squeaky Fromme, musical or otherwise, that I would really appreciate it. (And don't act like that wouldn't be hot!)
