Wednesday night's first presidential debate of this election season may have been the most Tweeted political event in history, but in our opinion, the format would definitely benefit from the addition of some classic reality show gimmicks. Here's what the organizers and broadcasters could do to really increase the entertainment value of future debates, which, after all, is what really matters:
-
We're in the midst of the fall 2012 season, and while some shows have just debuted or are still delayed, there have already been some big shockers (sadly, Community getting postponed didn't really surprise our jaded selves). Unfortunately, while some of these surprises have renewed our faith in television, others may have had the opposite effect.

There were a lot of big surprises yesterday during the Emmy nominations, but most of them just served to make us angry. And while we've simmered down a bit, we're still very confused about the shows that the voters apparently watch. And we're pretty sure that sometimes they just see a recognizable film star's name, get excited and check their box, regardless of quality (that's the only way we can explain the love for Uma Thurman and Kathy Bates). Here are the snubs that we just can't believe:
-
Summer used to be a time for ridiculous reality shows and reruns, but the season is now jam-packed with new and returning series, so much so that it's almost a challenge to keep up with the amount of shows premiering each week. We even had a tough time narrowing the list of shows we're anxiously awaiting down to these ten.
-
While we've already done our predictions and blathered on about the quality performances that actually deserve to win (i.e. our beloved Homeland), these are the things that would actually make us up jump for joy come Emmy night. Please note: it takes a lot to get us up off our couches.

Thank goodness for our returning shows, because otherwise this would have been a tough TV summer. While Teen Wolf, Suits, True Blood and Breaking Bad have all delivered week after week, most of the new programming of the last few months has left a lot to be desired. Breaking Pointe was fun and we're oddly obsessed with the surreal Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, but too many other freshman series were underwhelming at best. Here's what let us down the most:
-
The Olympics are almost over and we're a little let down and wondering what to do with all our spare time. So we'd like to propose these dream reality shows that would focus on some of the breakout stars of the London 2012 games, keeping the summer Olympic spirit alive for us during the long four-year wait for Rio.
-
We had thought that we were going to spend our summer delighting in seeing Cat Deeley on a fresh program and watching Kelly Clarkson be her adorable self, but their respective new reality shows turned out to be duds. So instead we've turned our attention to some other series that may not generate quite as much buzz, but still fill our mindless summer reality needs (kinda like these shows from the dog days of winter). They all have a charm that Snooki and JWOWW's stale act severely lacks, and are a nice companion to keep us and our DVRs busy now that So You Think You Can Dance is only on one night a week.
-
We've started celebrating Independence Day a few days early, and we're especially happy because the past TV season allowed us to finally get away from some truly terrible characters. Thank goodness for deaths and cancellations. We'll light some sprinklers in these people's honor.

Knowing Matthew Weiner, we won't be seeing any more of the SCDP gang until sometime in the middle of 2013, if we're lucky -- if we're not, it might not be until 2014. Sure, that gives us time to process all of the jaw-dropping moments of Season 5, but there are also so many Mad Men idiosyncrasies we'll miss after the show ends its season this Sunday.
