Today it was announced that NBC's upcoming sitcom adaptation of Chelsea Handler's memoir Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea has found its 20-year-old version of Chelsea Handler in Laura Prepon, a TV veteran who is 30, and a mere five years younger than Chelsea Handler's (alleged, because, come on) current age. We're not saying Laura Prepon won't do a decent job, but nevertheless, this means it's time to cast other comedians' memoirs with their TV-inappropriate counterparts. Because you know TV executives would do half this crap.

Kenneth the Page will be distraught to know that Tracy Jordan will be missing from a couple episodes of 30 Rock in March, plus Pee-wee Herman strikes a deal with HBO for a special. It's a mixed news day for overly-enthusiastic skinny guys...

Today was just another day of ignoring Alec Baldwin as he lies through his teeth.

I know, she's not the only one who got fired, but she is the one of the two most worthy of open ridicule.

There's more news happening about David Letterman, but frankly, unless he talks about it on his show or someone gets fired and/or goes to jail, I'm tired of writing about it. In other news, someone decided that Juno should be a writer and Donald Trump has decided his true skills lie in matchmaking. At least it isn't hairstyling.

Judging Strangers, Shows Nobody Cares About Anymore Except Us
Can Tracy Morgan Come Back to SNL... At Least Part Time?Tracy Morgan joked that he was in more sketches during this past weekend's guest hosting gig than he was in during his entire tenure on SNL. That may be true, but his recurring characters, which were dusted off and brought back just for the occasion, made for some of the brightest spots this week. His Brian Fellows and Astronaut Jones sketches were two of the few things that really made me laugh during the episode. Maybe it is just that both sketches have catchy theme songs. I'm a sucker for theme music. But I think the fact that they had little to do with any of the rest of the cast probably isn't a coincidence. Though Tracy on Big Love was a funny idea ... for a minute... had it not gone on so long. SNL's writing staff really needs to learn to edit down their stuff of late.... but that's another rant for another day. Some of their funniest things are just quick hit jokes. Like Astronaut Jones having a brief conversation with an alien species (in the form of Andy Samberg) made even that tired punchline more amusing because they didn't drag it out forever.

When SNL alums return to their alma mater, the results are a mixed bag. In the last few months, we saw the welcome return of Tina Fey playing Sarah Palin to hysterically witless effect. On the other hand, we were also forced to suffer through Steve Martin's one billionth hosting gig, which stretched out one gag (that he's a self-satisfied blow hard) for exactly one hour and twenty minutes too long. But news that Tracy Morgan will revisit his old stomping grounds on March 14 instantaneously made me jump up and down, clapping and making high-pitched screeching noises that can only be heard by dogs. In other words, hells to the yes! No one can meld childlike and gangsta quite like Tracy M. In anticipation of his guest spot, I've dug up some choice Hulu clips (sorry in advance to our European friends) of Tracy at his finest and I'm crossing my fingers that at least one of them will make a cameo when he shows up at SNL in a few weeks. Strangely, there were no clips of my favorite Tracy incarnation, Astronaut Jones, the smooth-talking, street-savvy space adventurer, so you'll have to peruse non-Hulu sources for those, but peep the rest and get jazzed for his upcoming appearance after the jump.

Wait wait wait wait wait. What is this? Jen Aniston on 30 Rock? Well okay. If anyone can make that work, it's Tina Fey. Look how not crappy David Schwimmer was when he guested as AWOL eco-superhero Greenzo! And if they can work that kind of magic on Ross, who is by far the most annoying/least successful/unfunniest Friends alum, then they have more than a fighting chance with Maniston, who was always the highpoint of that dumb-ass show anyhow. The only thing that has me the slightest bit concerned is that, according to published reports, Jen, Tina and Jane Krakowski are going to engage in some sort of Friends dream sequence wherein Aniston will reprise her role as Rachel, Fey will be Courtney Cox's Monica and Krakowski will step in for Lisa Kudrow's Phoebe. This is TV you guys! 30 Rock has never failed to churn out solid, knee-slapping parodies, but can't we get a little fantastical one of these days instead of trotting out the "clever" and "interesting" meta tropes that've become so ubiquitous of late? Ohhh look! It's Jerry Seinfeld playing Jerry Seinfeld! It's Tracy Morgan playing a sometimes drunk, hilariously inscrutable whackadoo who stars in a sketch comedy show! It's NBC playing a corporate monolith that's more interested in marketing microwave ovens than fostering artistic growth in its secondary incarnation as an entertainment company! We get it! It's cute! It's funny! But can you quit winking at us and give us some escapism instead of one big inside joke for once?
