Follies Of The Overrated, Let's Go to the Video
The SNL Premiere, or 'The New Lady Swore! The New Lady Swore!'So Jenny Slate said the F-word in her first episode, during a sketch about biker chicks who say "Frickin'" constantly. OK! I can see how that would happen. And the sketch aired at about the 12:40 AM mark of the episode, so I'm pretty sure no truly innocent children were too corrupted by it. NBC will probably be fined, because those are the rules, but clearly, the poor girl won't be fired. Her gaffe alone entered a lackluster premiere heavily into today's news cycle, and besides, I've seen her perform, and she has a lot to offer. I think she'll be alright.

Ahh yes, it's finally happened. That deal ABC inked with Hulu a few months ago has finally started coming to a fruition that we can sit in front of for hours on end! Well, it's actually more like four-ish hours right now, as Grey's is the only ABC show up as of yet, and there are only five episodes available so far -- all from last season, which was pretty terrible, but still! That doesn't mean we can't enjoy them ironically. Take the episode below, for example. It's like a particularly perfect storm of terrible, even for this show.

Another day, another ABC show awesomely added to Hulu. They're still frustratingly holding out on Lost, but new ABC shows are being added consistently and it's just been really nice to see another step towards being able to get all my shows in one, easy-to-stream place. There isn't a giant selection yet (it seems to be limited to what was already available on ABC.com at this point), but a handful of Ugly Betty episodes from last season were added yesterday, and I thought I'd embed one here and say some judgmental things about it.

After weeks of endless other, less important ABC shows landing on Hulu while we all cursed them for making us wait, Lost has finally arrived. The entire first season and the last five episodes of Season 5, to be exact. Below I've embedded the two-part pilot, which features all manner of wonderful things like introductions to a lot of people who are now dead, Jack's angel hair pasta story, Greg Grunberg's chewed up carcass, that guy getting sucking into a jet engine, Locke's orange peel smile, etc. It's all the stuff of legend now, and if you've never watched Lost before and didn't feel like renting it or dealing with ABC.com or whatever, here's an easy way to start and get addicted in time for the final season.

Judging Fictional Strangers, Let's Go to the Video
The Real Housewives of Orange County Reunion Special: Not Nearly as Awesome as Last Year's!This year's Real Housewives of Orange County reunion took up two nights of programming, but it was probably the most uneventful reunion of any of the show's franchises in years. This made me a little sad, but then I remembered that we're not far off from New York's reunion, and those ladies are reality professionals. So I'm sure this won't happen again. But for now, let's discuss what was lacking and the moments that stood out, for better or worse.

This weekend Jon Hamm returned to SNL despite having nothing to promote, simply because we're all in love with him. Which is a much better reason than most people have to host that show, so I say, good decision, both SNL and Jon Hamm. As usual, he was enthusiastic, handsome and funny, even when the sketches weren't. I have nothing bad to say about him or his hosting duties, so let's just run down the best and worst sketches of the night.

It's damn near the middle of August, which only means one thing: it's almost time for real television to come back! And to get us all super psyched about our favorite returning shows and our potential favorite new shows, NBC forced the amazing Joel McHale to star in their fall preview videos. Watch as he picks up trash, tortures Jay Leno and makes jokes about all the new medical shows while introducing the fall NBC trailers. As far as network marketing goes, it's no ABC House, but Joel McHale is never not awesome, even when he's talking to Jay Leno.

Everything's Better With Music, Let's Go to the Video
Kelly Kapoor's 'Male Prima Donna' is So Everyone's New JamAhh, Office webisodes. I always forget you exist and then I randomly watch one and laugh until Angel throws a Ken Doll at me. Today's installment featured Kelly Kapoor and new, obliviously sweet receptionist making a music video for their girl group Subtle Sexuality's hit single. In the Dunder Mifflin office, of course, because who needs location and set dressings when you've got a vending machine and a Kevin? The song's called "Male Prima Donna," and yes, it is about Ryan. And you know what? It was meant to be intentionally bad, but it's better than most Lady Gaga songs, and she's richer than Dwight running a bed and breakfast in hell with Satan, so I say reach for the stars, Kelly! You'll be celibately dating a Jonas Brother in no time with an act like this!

Sally Field received her annual Lead Actress in a Drama Emmy nomination today, and a lot of people are up in arms about how unfounded that is. And while I whole-heartedly agree with Angel that Mary McDonnell, January Jones or Katey Sagal deserve that nomination more than she does, what's done is done, and it's not like Sally Field hasn't done good work. As I always say to everyone who gives me crap about still watching this melodramatic soap -- it's not the actors' faults that Brothers & Sisters is bad. Most of them are actually doing some magic elevating these contradictory and ridiculous scripts.

With all the Super Bowl excitement yesterday and this morning, I almost completely forgot about this weekend's SNL episode. A surprisingly good one, actually, despite the bounding irrelevance of host Ashton Kutcher and the inexplicable phenomenon that occurs when great musicians like Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones collaborate to create some of the dullest music ever (also known as the Jackson-McCartney Effect). Here were the highs and lows of the episode.
