We might have all been under a tryptophan-induced sleep for the past few days, but the TV world never stopped making news.

Everything's Better With Music, Irrational Exuberance, Let's Go to the Video
Flight of the Conchords Premiere Makes Me Die of Happiness Almost! There's been a bigger than usual hole in my heart since Flight of the Conchords went on hiatus, so it gives me great joy (and a case of the giggles!) to announce that they're back back back and better than ever! Funny or Die is premiering the first ep of the new season, which won't air for reals on HBO 'til January. Since last we saw the delightful Kiwis, Murray has all but abandoned the FoTC in favor of international pop sensations the Crazy Dogs, so they totally fire his ass and are promptly hired to write a jingle for Femadent, a toothpaste made just for women's needs. Dave shows up and teaches them about ladies and bargaining (did you know Dave means "deal" in Latino?), Murray gets majorly sued by some Polish band and must resort to living in his car, Mel sets fire to things, Bret loses a shoe but gains a pair of woven pants and there's a nice little song about angels having sexytimes up in heaven. It's all very high-concept. So much love today! Watch and chuckle after the jumpular.

The angels are singing! The new season of Top Chef kicks off tonight, and I got to chat with host/judges Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio about what to expect. Over the course of the (very) long conference call, P and T discussed their new judge, writer Toby Young, a pretty rad line-up of guest judges, their own guilty pleasures and the ingredient they're most sick of. They mentioned only one of the new contestants -- Fabio -- by name, so do with that info what you will. They also took on haters who have implied that Top Chef is an easy ticket to success for lazy chefs, and if you're so inclined you can read about what they had to say at NY Mag's Grub Street blog. Otherwise, read on for the highlights.

Character Corner, Let's Go to the Video, Stars Making News
Dr. Ronald Chevalier: Cluster Award-WinnerAnd author of such acclaimed science fiction novels as Cyborg Harpies, Brain Cream and Brutus & Balzaak. Are those real novels? Is the Cluster Award a thing? Hey, Ronald Chevalier sounds pretty made up! Yes, I know that's what you're thinking. I've been there and back, man. Ronald Chevalier's website and existence is the latest trailblaze in the grand tradition of comedians-making-fake-websites-for-giggles. Portrayed by Flight of the Conchords' Jermaine Clement, Ronald Chevalier is passionate about science fiction, Friendster and the art of "Visitation Portraiture." Oh, and if you love the word "melee" and think it should be repeated a lot (I know I do!), this guy's for you. Watch The Dr.'s "Art of Relaxating" instructional video after the jump.

So Fringe is fiiiiinally back tomorrow night, thanks to a mercifully down-sized Idol, and we all know what that means -- besides awesome gross-out sci-fi and Olivia's Turtle Wax-grade shiny hair to look at, it means we also get our always-inappropriate, junk food-obsessed, absent-minded professor Walter back! And Gene, hopefully. Gene's my girl. It's an exciting week! Despite the show's faults, I have really missed it over the past six years (estimate) it's been gone, mostly because Walter has left an indelible root beer float-shaped void in my heart during the break, which no amount of Seacrest can fill. Which got me thinking -- what other shows are elevated by their awesome sidekicks? Lots of course, but these are my favorites:

I know I speak for the legions of members of the cult of Jemaine Clement (you know who you are, ladies and germs!) when I say I was aghast to learn that he of luscious lips and gently sloping forehead wed his longtime girlfriend Miranda Manasiadis over the weekend. Apparently Jemaine had been quietly dating the ho for some time and decided to make an honest woman of her. Damn you and your chivalrous Kiwi ways, Jemaine!

So the uberpopular Jonas Brothers with their mop top hair and their innocent sugar music and non-threatening teenage appeal have long had a Disney channel show in the works. Their surefire ratings hit dubbed J.O.N.A.S was going to take the trio of brothers and set them in the wild world of spies. Now that actually sounds like it could be mildly entertaining if I was 12. A little Alias, a little Spy Kids and a little Monkees and bam, you've got a series. What could be wrong with that? It's better than the premise of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
