Last night, TV Land debuted the new Fran Drescher series Happily Divorced. It's a semi-autobiographical tale of a woman whose two decades of wedded bliss ends when her husband finally decides to tell her that he's gay. But the two continue living together and having "saucy" dating adventures because TV Land's new M.O. is apparently taking character actors from yesteryear and making them perpetually horny (see also: Hot in Cleveland). While the show isn't great, I suppose I could see that people who love Drescher unconditionally (if such people exist) might blindly be amused by it. As for me, I found it excruciating for a variety of reasons.
Here we go again.
What you see here is the future of what the kids are watching.
Is Kendra from The Girls Next Door the new face of The Olive Garden? Not if the OG brass has anything to say about it. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal [via Videogum], Ms. Wilkinson is a devoted and vocal fan of the free bread sticks haven and doesn't miss a chance to talk it up, enumerating the virtues of her most favorite menu items (artichoke dip, salad and chicken parmigiana) to anyone who will listen. You'd think the chain would be thrilled at the free publicity, but apparently being that they're a 'family company' or some dumb crap, they're not so stoked on being endorsed by a woman who gets nekkid for a living.
