I think so. I hesitate to suggest that Paula Abdul is the mastermind of anything, even something as simple as picking out a song, but the judges' picks last night seem suspect to me. It's crazy that out of all the songs in the world to choose from, Adam got to sing a U2 anthem literally (literally!) everyone on the planet knows backwards and forwards, Kris got to sing one of last year's biggest, most widely played hits, and Gokey got stuck with "Dance Little Sister" by Terence Trent D'Arby -- a forgettable song I've honestly never even heard of. Maybe it's the biggest song in the history of music, I don't know. I do know that I'm a huge music fan and a devout follower of all things pop and I had never heard it before.
I'm an Adam Lambert fan. I'm not even going to try and pretend I'm not. I love his voice, his style and think he just seems like a cool person. That said, I'm also hugely into musical theater and like my pop stars to be overly flamboyant. I was raised in a household with a lot of Queen and David Bowie. But even though Adam made it further than I could have hoped, I just think that it won't be enough to pull him through to take the title of American Idol (which really means nothing anyway, but that's a whole 'nother story). If it had been the predicted Lambert/Gokey showdown, I think Adam might have had a chance, but now that wild card Kris Allen is in the mix, I think that Kris has an excellent chance of going home with the title.
Adam Lambert may be in trouble with ABC, but he is mopping the floor with little Kris Allen, sales-wise.
Another slow news day. I think it is going to be a very long summer for TWoP News. Is it wrong that I kind of miss the days of daily updates on whether Simon or Kara would leave American Idol, or reading stories about Paula? At least there was some Idol news today.
Idol may be over until next year, but the contestants are still talking! I got on a conference call with Adam and Kris the other day to hear all about their future plans and how they felt about the finale and season as a whole. Adam had a lot to say, while Kris was characteristically sweet but less than exciting. Which is why I've posted the Adam portions first. Dust off the shoulder pads, people, it's Glamberace time!
