There have been some absolutely dreadful new sitcoms so far this season (Partners/Animal Practice), but I'm happy to say that The Mindy Project isn't one of them. While it doesn't quite live up to the expectations and the hype (given the buzz surrounding the fact that it's from, and stars, Mindy Kaling), it by no means should be mentioned in the same breath as last season's Are You There, Chelsea? and Whitney. This show has a bit of charm, and while it got off to an underwhelming start, there's definitely some potential there.

When one show ends, another great show must begin.

Glee is full steam ahead on the stunt casting.

I will never doubt Terry O'Quinn again. Ever.

Everything's Better With Music, Let's Go to the Video
Kelly Kapoor's 'Male Prima Donna' is So Everyone's New JamAhh, Office webisodes. I always forget you exist and then I randomly watch one and laugh until Angel throws a Ken Doll at me. Today's installment featured Kelly Kapoor and new, obliviously sweet receptionist making a music video for their girl group Subtle Sexuality's hit single. In the Dunder Mifflin office, of course, because who needs location and set dressings when you've got a vending machine and a Kevin? The song's called "Male Prima Donna," and yes, it is about Ryan. And you know what? It was meant to be intentionally bad, but it's better than most Lady Gaga songs, and she's richer than Dwight running a bed and breakfast in hell with Satan, so I say reach for the stars, Kelly! You'll be celibately dating a Jonas Brother in no time with an act like this!

So two weekends ago I was watching my DVD of Anchorman, and then last weekend I was watching my DVD of The 40 Year Old Virgin, and then this weekend I will probably be watching my DVD of The Ten, because I really love Paul Rudd. (It wasn't so long ago that I last watched my DVD of Wet Hot American Summer, either. That kind of love.) But anyway, watching Rudd interact with Steve Carell in both Anchorman and Virgin, it made me think...why hasn't someone written a role for Rudd on The Office yet? Mindy Kaling, you played Amy, the object of Rudd's character's unrequited love in Virgin -- why haven't you made it happen? Why have they found room for (the admittedly also awesome) David Koechner (who plays Packer on The Office), but not for Rudd, a man I thought we all, as a culture, had agreed is one of our most beloved national treasures and totally adorable besides? Am I the only one who can see Rudd playing, let's say, a new CFO at Corporate making Ryan's life hell? Or maybe Pam's smarmy brother who loved Roy and therefore hates Jim? Creed's long-lost son, just as weird as his dad?
This...is how fanfic gets started, isn't it. -
With the holiday shopping season upon us, we fans of Things I've Bought That I Love -- the shopping blog maintained by Mindy "The Office" Kaling -- may have feared that Kaling would fall into strike panic and curtail her consumer updates. Fortunately, we needn't have worried.
In fact, when you're bored by the absence of new Office episodes, you should treat yourself to her archives. They're brilliant. -
The news that writers and producers will resume negotiations a week from today (because God forbid anyone have to reschedule Thanksgiving plans in the name of thousands of people's livelihoods) is certainly welcome, but the fight's not over yet. Mindy Kaling explains her initially conflicted feelings about striking -- and does a good job addressing the sort of "good lord, they're not coal miners, they should get over themselves" naysayers who I think don't really understand the nature of this fight. And recent TWoP interviewee Rich Sommer blogs about his experience on the line. -
I'd always suspected Mindy Kaling was the tits. Her portrayal of awesome-town valley girl Kelly Kapoor on The Office is waaay up my alley and down my street, as the saying goes. Who could fail to see the genius of her exhortation, "Fashion show at lunch!"?? Only an idiot. My love for Kaling was deepened when I was introduced to her personal blog, Things I've Bought That I Love, which reveals her to be the best kind of girlie girl -- the kind who's unapologetic about liking pretty things but also funny and smart enough to justify her taste with explanations other than "yay, pink!" (Incidentally, I know you've been busy with your real job, Minders, but please update that shiz! For me?)

In today's news, Paula Abdul admits she used to be a pill-popper, Kiefer goes buckwild again, there's some exciting pilot news, and Gossip Girl continues to invade every single last crevice of American culture.
