In today's roundup: A Ron Silver memorial, The Tonight Show is an inappropriate place for important people who have better things to do, Sons of Anarchy hires the perfect new guest star, the Sci Fi Channel has lost its damn mind, Top Model hopefuls are a violent people, and Chevy Chase does what Chevy Chase does.

I've always imagined the hardest part of pitching a series to a network would be choosing just the right "It's like this successful thing meets this other successful thing!" portion of the sell. You'd think one would want to choose accurate examples, whilst remaining not ridiculous, so people will be assured that you're not an idiot and want to invest in your product. Then a week comes along where both a show described as "The Devil Wears Prada meets Taxi" and another show described as "part X-Files, part Raiders of the Lost Ark and part Moonlighting" are announced. All I got to say is I bet all my friends are sorry for laughing at my Hard Rain meets Spy Kids fan fiction now.

If you were like me, you saw that BBC America was bringing over a show called Primeval, and said, "Wasn't that that movie about a giant crocodile starring Orlando Jones?" Well, in Britain, they were either blissful unaware of that film, or they felt that a crummy movie should not have the right to bogart an awesome title, because a month after the movie was inflicted on American audiences, UK viewers got a much better Primeval, in the form of an hour-long sci-fi drama in the vein of X-Files, Angel and Stargate SG-1. And with a new episode premiering this Saturday, followed by a mini-marathon on Sunday, I wanted to get the word out that there is nary an Orlando Jones in sight.

I am highly skeptical of anything on ABC Family. While I have never actually watched an episode of Wildfire, something tells me I would not like it, because I am not a 13-year-old girl. Granted, there are a few syndicated shows there that I will admit to having watched in the past, but my point is that ABC Family shows are cute and family-friendly and more or less harmless. (Although as a parent I would look askance at certain episodes of Smallville.) So why the hell do I like The Middleman so much?
