Oh, NBC. Chase is one of those shows that happens every fall -- it's a bland and derivative procedural, but it's ultimately innocuous and perfectly fine for a Friday night buried somewhere on CBS (where it would get huge ratings that no one could explain, but still) or on TNT or something of that ilk. But, unfortunately, NBC is hinging its Monday night 10 PM timeslot on this show. You know, I liked The Event a lot more than I thought I would, and I think it might have legs, but outside of that? When shows like Chase are taking up prime real estate like this? It just further convinces me that NBC is still in deep trouble.

The much advertised (nay, relentlessly advertised) premiere of The Event is finally happening tonight, so therefore the show's two biggest stars -- Jason Ritter and Blair Underwood -- participated in a media call to face their fears of early cancellation and meandering plot focus. It's that time of year when networks are finalizing their fall line-ups and deciding which current shows to keep or cancel. And while we'd like to see underrated procedural Detroit 1-8-7 get another chance, as well as the ridiculous, nonsensical guilty pleasure Off the Map continue, there are a plenty of other "bubble" shows that truly deserve to get their bubbles burst, freeing their casts and producers to seek better luck elsewhere. Here are the ones that most need to be axed, for everyone's sake:

Our poor, dumb little guilty pleasure show The Event is going on a break until February 28, during which time the show is expected to retool and become something that not only more people will want to watch, but also something that fewer people will want to laugh at. It's got a long way to go to becoming a legit drama (and frankly, we kind of love it as the absurd throwaway that it is right now), but here are my bids for where they should start, at least.
