I know a lot of big State fans who blinked and missed Stella's Comedy Central iteration when it was canceled after 10 episodes and replaced, insultingly, with Mind of Mencia in 2005. Which is a shame, because I actually prefer the TV show to the DVD shorts. All the absurdist brilliance of Stella is here, but with fewer dildos and less corpse humping. As a result, it is remarkably more focused, and a lot smarter. Plus, Rashida Jones! All 10 episodes are on Hulu now, and I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys involved jokes about skunk tails.

MTV recently announced that it will be shutting down its Times Square studio since, now that there's no TRL, the space is usually vacant. Guess those poor "woo-hoo" girls will have to find a new place to stand and scream. The network also announced that it will launch five more scripted shows this fall. Both of these developments seem to be signifying the end of an era... an era when this music television network was solely focused on a lot of mediocre (yet addictive) reality programming. But what the network really needs to do is return to its roots. Here are my suggestions of what they should bring back to their airwaves.

Hollywood To TWoP: Hello There!, Irrational Exuberance, They Answer, We Ask
Michael Ian Black Has Issues, DVDs, Ice Cream BarsComedian Michael Ian Black has three reasons to celebrate. One, The State has finally come out on DVD, so we can all watch his classic pants-buying and Captain Monterey Jack sketches. Two, Michael and Michael Have Issues, his new Comedy Central show with fellow State alum Michael Showalter, is hysterically funny. Three, he gets all the Klondike bars he wants as the new Klondike company spokesman. We know which of those three we'd be most excited about, but it's hard to get past the trademark Black deadpan to figure out which has him the most jazzed. You be the judge!

And thank the good lord that they do, because who would entertain us if they didn't? Despite the lackluster performance of Michael Ian Black's current Comedy Central show, the network is moving forward on a pilot called Michael and Michael Have Issues, a sketch comedy show starring Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter. THR also reports that character actor Josh Pais, (who I don't know much about, other than that he was in my favorite Damages Season 1 episode, and considering Damages is about the furthest thing from comedy as you can get, he must be awfully versatile) has been cast as a regular as well. It may not be a State DVD (why, MTV?! Why?!), but between this, Wainy Days, Joe Lo Truglio's fabulous cameo in Pineapple Express and Dame Delilah's Fantasy Ranch, there's plenty of State love going around to keep me sane until MTV releases their cruel, claw-like grip on those DVDs. I hope.

You will never believe what the internet has! State DVD rumors! I know! So unprecedented! I apologize for not asking you to sit down first! There are other things being reported today as well, and they're probably not filthy lies, which is nice. You can read them below.

Starz debuted their new comedy series Party Down tonight. It's got an incredible pedigree. It's from Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas, Mars writers John Enbom and Dan Etheridge and genuinely all-around funny guy Paul Rudd. Not too shabby. And the cast is chockablock full of former Mars stars. It's a veritable reunion of sorts. And it is a show about cater-waiters living in LA, biding their time until they get their big breaks. Which means that every week we get a different party with more wacky guests. Seems like the makings of a laugh riot, right?
