Why is it that this show has trouble doing funny sketches with actual comedians? Like the episode with Bryan Cranston, this one had a solid opening and a few entertaining moments, but it mostly fell flat. Even Zach bizarrely shaving his head just in time for the sign-off couldn't save an episode that fittingly closed with a sketch about the Titanic.

This week's SNL had quite a bit of momentum leading into it, with every website in the land fearlessly projecting that Zach Galifianakis would do something revolutionary with his hosting gig. Which is a little unfair, even considering how funny a comedian he is. He did a great job, but it's SNL: things are run by the same old man they always have been, you know? You're not going to get away with much. Don't get me wrong -- it was still a strong episode overall, but the only sketch that really felt extremely Zach was the pageant one, and Hulu and NBC.com are pretending like that sketch didn't even happen. So aside from that one, which was the best one, here are the second, third, fourth and fifth best Zach moments from his hosting gig.

It certainly could get better, as I've only watched last night's pilot episode so far, and pilots generally mean very little, but man, that was so disappointing. I wanted to love it so much, based on the cast alone -- Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson -- and I even like the author the show is loosely based on, Jonathan Ames, perfectly fine. But this pilot was awful.

There are lots of new shows on the block, but they seem to be reminiscent of shows we know and love. Lost is coming to an end, so naturally, another show is looking to take its place. Octomom finally got her own reality show, which is basically another version of Jon & Kate Plus Eight. Well, without Jon. The only original TV show in the news is Steven Spielberg's pilot about aliens, and even that's pushing it. Anyway, there are some good news and some tragic news; you'll laugh and you'll cry, so proceed with caution.

I know we're pretty gushing fangirly about Jon Hamm on this blog, which can be a bit nauseating at times, but when he does stuff like this... it's just hard to fall out of love with him. While making the what must have been excruciating press whore rounds for the tiny part he had in The Day the Earth Stood Still Sucks (nailed it), Hamm stopped by the greatest online fake interview series around, Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis. It's not quite as awkwardly hilarious as the Michael Cera one, but Hamm is a great sport and is able to keep up with Zach's comedic prowess, which bodes very well for his upcoming 30 Rock stint. Also, he likes websites! So, you know, he's basically our soulmate because we are a website! Yeah, I don't get it either. It's Monday. Clips for both the Hamm and Cera editions below!
