OK. I've finally stopped weeping and think I can handle writing this post. After lots of speculation, and a whole freakin' heap of denial on my part, ABC officially decided not to pick up Pushing Daisies. To be fair, two other sophomore series, Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone, also got axed by the alphabet network. They refuse to actually say cancelled, which just ticks me off more. Why give people the false hope (no matter how minuscule that may be) that there's a chance they could change their minds. It's just mean. Maybe they just want people to send them free pies.
Clearly, I'm most upset about Daisies (which I just simply adore). But I know there are a lot of loyal Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money fans out there who are going to be mad. I would have been angry a year ago if you'd said you were going to cancel either of them, but right now, not so much. Eli Stone has kind of toned down the crazy, and the singing/dancing... which were the only reasons I ever watched, and Dirty Sexy Money is barely recognizable as the show that I was hooked on last season. It's turn to soap washed away everything that was good and gritty about it in the first place. So to me, those two are not as huge a loss. I just wish Pushing Daisies would have been able to win over a bigger audience. It was so different and unique and truly special, that I look forward to watching the DVDs of the two too brief seasons over and over again.
I love, love, love Bryan Fuller's quirkier fare, and even if the world at large doesn't get the appeal of Daisies or Wonderfalls, they will always have a special place in my heart. At least now there's the possibility that Bryan Fuller could return to Heroes and help make that show better. And it needs all the help it can get. Perhaps he could bring Ned over to give that show some much needed life.
You thoughts on this news? Are you as upset about Daisies as I am? Are you really annoyed about Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone getting canned too? Sound off below. I'm going to go back and cry under my desk now.
