Dollhouse: Five Reasons Next Season Is Shaping Up to Be Surprisingly Good

I know that I complain about Dollhouse a lot around these parts, but that has a lot to do with my high expectations for anything from the Joss Whedon world. Sorry, I've been spoiled. That said, while the beginning of this series was downright terrible, it did show some improvement as it went along (for those who made it that far), and I'm sort of intrigued at where this will go in Season 2 now that so much of the Dollhouse's world has been thrown into chaos. I'm especially curious now, since there have been some announcements about next season (from Comic-Con and post-Con) that sound very, very promising.

1. Alexis Denisof
Joss said at Comic-Con that he no longer cares if he's viewed as playing favorites with actors, so that means that we can expect more familiar Whedonverse faces to show up. The first official one is Mr. Wesley Wyndam-Pryce himself. He'll be in a few episodes! This is delightfully promising news, and if they found a way to work Denisof's wife Alyson Hannigan into a cameo, I'd be extra-psyched about that.

2. Jamie Bamber
From the post-Con news, it has been announced today that the dreamy Apollo, er, Jamie Bamber, will be in the premiere episode. If there's a scene with Bamber and Tahmoh Penikett together, my little Battlestar-loving brain will go into overload and probably shut down from all of the aggregated awesomeness.

3. Felicia Day
While I haven't had a chance yet to watch the "missing episode," in which Felicia plays a big part, I've heard some good things about it. Plus, I kind of think she's pretty much adorable, especially in her pretty-singing Dr. Horrible gig.

4. New DP
Again, I haven't seen the "Epitaph One" episode, but according to Joss at Comic-Con the camerawoman from that is taking over as director of photography for the series going forward, and she's got a whole new look for the show. He promises that it will look less like standard TV and it will "throw the stories at us more viscerally." Sounds like it could be interesting. Has to be more exciting than just watching people slowly walk around all the time.

5. Summer Glau
I put this one last because it isn't officially signed yet, but if it was, it would skyrocket straight up to number 1. Summer Glau, who worked with Joss on Firefly/Serenity and just did some serious ass-kicking on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, might be appearing in some episodes in Season 2, "if the stars align." That'd be fabulous since she'd have actually been better as Echo than Eliza Dushku, but that's a whole 'nother story (and I swear I'm going to try and complain less about Dushku's limited acting ability this season). Anyway, Summer Glau is cool, would make a bad-ass doll and I hope it happens. Girlfight!!!

Does this make you want more Dollhouse? Have you written the show off for good? Did you think it was fine as it was? Sound off below.
