Yes, but what does this mean for Cougarton Abbey?
After the Cougar Town crew nabbed some much-needed attention by staging their own unofficial press conference at TCA, ABC head Paul Lee has announced that Bill Lawrence's badly-titled sitcom will be back on the airwaves in March, exact date and time TBD. So clearly all Dan Harmon needs to do to shame NBC into making room for Community is to rent out a bar and ply journalists with plenty of booze and highly printable quotes. Sign us up!
Tina Fey's ability to attract big-name guest stars to 30 Rock hasn't dimmed with the show's age... or dip in quality. The list of Season 6's celebrity cameos will include Emma Stone, Andy Samberg and Nick Cannon, who will all appear in a January 26 episode (which will feature a spoof on celebrity vehicles Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve) . Other famous faces turning up over the course of the season will include Kelsey Grammer, Kristen Schaal and James Marsden. Fine Tina, you win. We'll add 30 Rock back to our season pass list already.
Finally some good news for Oprah's struggling OWN network. The talk queen's new series Oprah's Next Chapter posted 1.6 million viewers in its second week on the air, making it the channel's highest-rated broadcast since its 2011 launch. Just goes to show you: if Oprah's on, they will come.
Paul Bettany has abruptly dropped out of the upcoming Showtime series Masters of Sex, which would have cast him as '60s sex-pert William Masters. Producers are now on the hunt for a new Masters, as well as his partner-in-lovemaking, Virginia Johnson. If David Duchovny weren't already tied up with Californication, this would seem right up his alley.
3D: It's not just for James Cameron and Martin Scorsese anymore. NBC has announced that they will be broadcasting the 2012 Summer Olympics, which runs from July 27-August 12 in London, in three-dimensions for those with 3D compatible televisions. Because nothing screams "3D" more than synchronized swimming and table tennis. Fencing or javelin on the other hand? Pretty cool.
Rubicon aside, AMC has generally displayed pretty good instincts when it comes to developing new series. Still, we're not convinced that a Goodfellas TV spin-off is really a project they should be pursuing, even if Nicholas Pileggi himself is attached. On the other hand, if it brings Joe Pesci out of his prolonged retirement, we'll be tuning in.
