Does this look like the next Katniss Everdeen to you?
The Hunger Games isn't even in theaters yet, but already Hollywood is eager to piggyback off its (probable) success. To go along with their Sex and the City prequel and Green Arrow spin-off, The CW has announced that former Friday Night Lights star Aimee Teegarden will headline a Hunger Games-style series, The Selection, based on yet-to-be published book by Kiera Cass. Set 300 years in the future, the show will follow a poor resident of a battle-scarred nation who is chosen by a lottery to participate in some kind of competition. If said competition involves playing football, Coach Taylor's daughter has victory in the bag.
In other pilot casting news, Jonathan Jackson and Mena Suvari have both landed fall gigs. Jackson will appear on the ABC series Nashville, a musical drama set in America's country music capital, while Suvari is joining an untitled NBC sitcom from a Community staffer, Hilary Winston, as the co-worker of a shy woman recently recovering from a break-up.
America has Downton Abbey fever and it shows no signs of abating. The Season 2 finale of the British soap drew record ratings for PBS -- 5.4 million viewers to be exact. That's the network's highest-rated broadcast since Ken Burns' 2009 National Parks series. So apparently all that PBS needs to set the biggest ratings in history is an episode of Downton Abbey where the Crawley clan visits one of America's national parks. Get on that, Julian Fellowes.
Though they haven't been named yet, Simon Cowell says that Season 2 of The X Factor will feature not just one, but two hosts, possibly a male-female duo. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon may want to check their voicemails for a message from Cowell.
Finally, here's yet one more reason to look forward to Community's March 15 return. Rob Corddry is coming back as Jeff's old law firm co-worker in the Season 3 finale. (We're not ready to even contemplate the idea that this may be the series finale.) John Goodman will also turn up in that episode to try and lure Troy back over to the Dark Side (a.k.a. Greendale's Air Conditioning Repair Annex) one more time.
