Looks like FX will keep on playing those spy games.
FX has given the go-ahead to another season of its '80s spy serial, The Americans. We're hoping the show runs long enough to allow its deep cover Russian operatives to experience the flannel wonderland that was America's grunge era.
Speaking of The Americans, current (for now) cast member Margo Martindale will star as Will Arnett's mom on the Greg Garcia sitcom that the ex-Up All Night star just agreed to headline. Another one of our favorite character actresses, Melanie Lynskey, has also found gainful employment. She'll be starring in an HBO comedy pilot from the Duplass boys entitled Togetherness about a pair of cohabitating couples.
James Van Der Beek has a new role, and not as himself this time! The Beek is headlining the CBS comedy pilot, Friends With Better Lives as a soon-to-be divorced gynecologist and member of a sextet of thirtysomething pals who all have supposedly hilarious and relatable personal problems. Also landing new jobs courtesy of pilot season are Mira Sorvino, who will star on Jim Gaffigan's untitled CBS sitcom, and Bridget Regan, who was tapped for a gig on the ABC drama, Murder in Manhattan.
In a move that may or may not signal the demise of the on-the-bubble CSI: NY, Hill Harper crosses over to USA's Covert Affairs as a series regular. At least the network's planned NCIS: LA spin-off will keep its schedule flush with the appropriate number of acronyms.
