So I'm far from the only person excited the the Olympics are starting tomorrow night, but around here in the TWoP offices I'm pretty much a rarity. My copy of Time with its helpful article on the 100 athletes to watch has garnered me a few quizzical looks, and I quickly have to change the subject to "Hey, did you see what happened on Project Runway last night?" in order to stop them from thinking that I've suddenly turned into a sports obsessed freak. However, I think there are quite a number or events (which I'll be babbling about annoyingly ad nauseam for the next two and half weeks) that I think might actually appeal to my fellow TV junkies out there. While nothing will be quite as fun as The Office's Olympics... this might keep you entertained for a few days at least.
Television Without Pity got to pose a truly deep question to the U.S. Olympic athletes heading off to Beijing. We wanted to know who their celebrity crush is. An inquiry that made some of them smile and blush. Though I don't believe the select few who say they don't have one. If I can spout out a list of ten hotties in Hollywood in under one minute, coming up with one attractive star should not be that difficult. Far more believable is Kate Markgraf's reaction to the question, "Easy, Matt Damon. Love him. We're in love and he just does not know it yet. My husband's OK with it too." I can't deny that my response might mirror Kate's in many ways. And of course as you could have guessed, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, and Angelina Jolie made the cut for these athletes. Even with their talent and fame, they don't differ too much from us average non-gold medal-winning Joes. Click here to watch and see more of our TWoP Asks videos.
And dish in our forums about the scandals, stories and other wild happenings at the Olympic games.
So there I was, sitting in a cab on the way to an appointment, watching the little news station on the taxi TV (we've come a long way, baby) when I see this commercial. I literally was like "What? You've got to be freakin' kidding me!" Which earned me kind of a strange look from the driver. Anyway, someone with corporate synergy on the brain has gone one step too far and come up with a commercial that promotes both The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and the Olympics.
Growing up in New England, I developed a hearty appreciation of the outdoors, and would spend hours running around in the woods playing hide-and-seek, burying pornography, and the like. And I've wiped my butt with leaves in national parks in four different states! So you'd think that the Outdoor Channel would be perfect for me, right? Apparently, no. Tonight, there are a total of three new shows debuting on the Outdoor Channel. Want to know what they are?
I am an Olympic junkie (my obsession will probably reach its fever pitch by the time August 8th rolls around, expect lots of rants about scheduling) and I'm already feeling baffled and overwhelmed by the prospect of having to figure out how the new gymnastics judging system is going to work.
I, like many others (there are others, right?), consider myself a bit of a sofa judge. I pay little attention to the popular sporting event in the off years, but by the time it rolls around I feel overly qualified from my sedentary position to critique how well someone performed on the balance beam or if they really stuck their landing.
